Highly drug-resistant bacteria have caused infectious disease outbreaks among medical tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2022 Quality of care:<\/strong> Not every country&#8217;s protocols and standards for treatment are the same as in the United States or North America. Counterfeit medicines and lower-quality medical devices may also be used in some countries. This is a big risk you must consider when traveling for medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2022 Communication challenges:<\/strong> If you travel to a country where you are not fluent in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.journohq.com\/blog\/5-best-ways-to-learn-a-new-language-quickly\/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=aweber&amp;utm_campaign=general_blog_content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">language<\/a> and customs, then there may be issues understanding some things or communicating some things to your healthcare team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2022 Air travel:<\/strong> If you plan for surgery, plan to be gone for a few weeks, depending on what it is. Flying after surgery can increase the risk for blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis.
