Red's Eats

We decided to take the scenic drive from Portsmouth to Bar Harbor by way of route 1. We wanted to check out the cute seaside towns on the way. We passed through Portland, Freeport (where Land’s End is headquartered and the whole town is like an outlet mall), Rockland, Belfast, and many more.

The drive took about 5 hours and we stopped halfway for lunch in a little town called Wicasset because we heard they were home to the best lobster roll in Maine.

If you are driving on route 1 you can’t miss Red’s Eats As you will see the line wrapped around the building. We waited in line for almost an hour but it was pleasant as the workers came around with pitchers of water for people and soggy bowls for pups! Finally we made it to the front and ordered from the nicest woman, Shannon, who was so excited when we ordered 2 lobster rolls with butter (butter or mayo comes on the side not on the roll) and a side of scallops (her favorite thing on the menu)! After waiting for our food to cook we sat outside at a table (there is no inside) looking out at the river.

After all of that waiting I was worried the food wouldn’t live up to the hype - but once we got our food I knew I was about to taste the best lobster roll of my life!

And it was...

Along with being the best it was also the biggest lobster roll I’ve ever seen - clearly more than one lobster is on every roll and it was well worth the $24. It was so big that you have to eat all the lobster off the top with a fork before it is manageable enough to pick it up!

I usually prefer mayo on my lobster rolls but I LOVED it with butter.

The scallops were also spectacular and I would highly recommend them!

All in all I can see why this place is the best lobster roll in Maine (and potentially the world!) I am already excited to go back again.

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

Views from Bass Harbor Head Light House Trail

Very quick walk down to the rocks where you can look up at the light house on the cliffs

This is a cool area of Mount Desert Island which feels a bit off the beaten track after being in Bar Harbor. You drive through cute little towns and beautiful landscapes to get here. We saw deer on two separate occasions on this part of our excusrion.

Side Street Cafe

Eating is one of our favorite things to do on vacation, so I spend a lot of time leading up to a trip doing research on the best bars and restaurants in the area.

One of our favorite restaurants in Bar Harbor, and a top rated recommendation on TripAdvisor is Side Street Cafe

We liked this place so much we went back twice on our trip.

The first time I had the Reuben and my fiancé had the Cuban for lunch.

The second time we went for dinner - they don’t take reservations but you can call ahead and put your name on the list up to an hour before you want to arrive. They will text you when your table is ready. It’s a hot spot and I love the decor - even the ceiling is cool!

If you are in Bar Harbor this place is a must visit!

Cottage St. Pub

I have been really into fun tasty cocktails this spring. And we found the perfect place in Bar Harbor.

Cottage Street Pub is an adorable little bar in the heart of downtown. I loved this place - walking in it automatically feels classy and homey at the same time with rose gold accents everywhere.

The first night we went in and I ordered the Albert Meadow which is a vodka and strawberry drink. It was fantastic and not too sweet - just the way I like it!

Even the adorable square ice cube with a frozen strawberry inside was so cute!

The next day I couldn’t stop thinking about how tasty it was so we went back the next night!

This place is great - and compared to Boston prices it wasn’t too expensive for a nice cocktail or a beer. Sean loves the Real Ale by Atlantic Brewing Company which is based in Bar Harbor.

Overall this place is awesome and you should pop in for a drink if you are in Bar Harbor

Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina

This time I surprised my fiancé with a beautiful hotel downtown Bar Harbor; The Harborside Hotel, Spa and Marina. We stayed in two different rooms while we were there. The first night we stayed on the harbor view side with views of the pool and harbor.

The second and third night we stayed on the island view side which included views of the island and beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend this hotel!

We loved the views from the pools and hot tubs and the fact that it was right downtown Bar Harbor within walking distance to all of our favorite bars, \240restaurants, and coffee shops!

Our hotel package came with a daily breakfast credit of $30 at their restaurant. We went twice and the food was delicious. You can sit inside or outside on the patio. My favorite was the Bagle and Lox.

Jordan Pond

One of our favorite trails in Acadia National Park is the Jordan Pond Loop. It is completely flat and you walk around Jordan Pond with beautiful scenery all around you!

After completing the 3.5 mile loop stop by the Jordan Pond House for Popovers and Prosecco 😍
