It was time to say goodbye to Alberta and Hello to British Columbia! So, we started our 530 mile road trip to Vancouver! There will be a 2 night stop off halfway in Kamloops to break up the journey.

The day started very very cold!

It was actually so cold that the river had loads of big pieces of ice floating in it. Eventually, this river just gets frozen over completely.

It was a lovely day for a road trip and a very straightforward route, we were both excited to cross the border into BC to see what it was like over there.

On route, whilst on Highway 16, we went past Mount Robson which we had been told was impressive but it wasn’t until we saw it from the car mirrors that we realised it was something to actually stop for and take a picture of. From the other angle it just looked like all the other mountains.

The drive was long but picturesque which kept us entertained. Sam did most of the driving and I did a bit less than an hour -enjoyed it!

Once we got closer to Kamloops the landscape started to change and reminded me more of England because of the rolling hills, warmer climate, and lots of farms (we didn’t see any in Alberta). Also, the lakes and rivers weren’t the striking blue/green/turquoise that they had been before.

We arrived in Kamloops just in time for tea. Hotel is basic but we’re only here for two nights so it doesn’t matter. Saying that, I managed to get Sam an upgrade to a king suite on the top floor because our booking had been messed up, so her room isn’t bad. However we both miss having duvets rather than blankets and sheets. Hopefully in Vancouver there’ll be duvets!

Kamloops

Kamloops was always going to be just a stop-over point, and thank god it was only that -it’s pretty uninspiring. I’m sure that most the locals have webbed feet lol! We went to the ‘high street ‘ to find somewhere to get some lunch but there was not a single place that looked appealing. We ended up at a hotel which had a decent restaurant and a nice fire which we sat next to to eat.

Unfortunately I felt really crap today -especially sick, so it was just as well that we were in crappy Kamloops as I wasn’t up to doing much anyway. After I had just about made it through lunch we headed back to the hotel and I stayed in my room and rested for the rest of the day.

I didn’t get many pictures as there wasn’t much to take a picture of.

Now that we’re in British Columbia it feels very different. There are parts that feel like England as mentioned before, and there are also parts that are like America. As we have travelled further west it has become more American and a lot of the towns we go past that are in between the big cities look quite trashy. You can tell that we have moved out and away from the tourist part of the country. Vancouver will be nice though!
