Day 1

- 4 hour bus to Cádiz and arrived at our apartment, had a toastie for late lunch & went for a wander to our local beach

- Spent an hour unpacking before heading out for tapas at Taberna el tio de la tiza.

Day 2

- Coffee on the roof terrace

- Sunday flea market - so many random old things

- Walked round some shops & bought a cushion for my WFH chair. We also joined a gym which looks massive, includes swimming pool & classes.

- Onion tortellini in carbonara style sauce for lunch @ home

- then a first run out for the waterproof phone case (don't worry we're not mental)

- Tortillas de Camarones (crispy shrimp omelettes) - these are €1-2 each and available in all tapas bars in Cádiz. Our new favs 🫶🏼.

- yummy paella that we've somehow gone 9 days without ordering in spain 😮

- sunset walk home along the front :)

Day 3

- Our first day trying out the new WFH set up, doing calls on the desk in the bedroom

- Followed by our first visit to the gym!

- Although it did only last 20 minutes because we were being judged for being the only people without towels. There are signs telling you not to use the equipment without one 🫣

- Obligatory sit down on the rooftop after \240climbing all the stairs up to our flat

- Fred made us another nice pasta for tea as we tried to have a more casual / homely day. (We have limited kitchen equipment if you can't tell 😅)

- note from fred: by limited i mean very limited, 2 hob rings, no oven.

Day 4

- We went to our co-working office today which we have for 2 days a week whilst being here. Very much appreciated the comfy desk chairs & second screen monitors!

- It's a strange little place, wasn't sure about the dim lighting but it does have aircon !! 🙌🏼

- We went for a walk at lunch, tried a lemon aquarius & Fred bought some more fishing supplies 🎣

- The sun finally came out after work! But Fred didn't feel well so we headed straight home & ended up napping for over an hour

- Another tea at home but hopefully we'll make it out tomorrow eve 🙏 a chilled day was needed

Day 5

- Started the day with an elite WFH snack

- Paid fruit boy a visit for some fresh melon

- Appreciated a lighter lunch... we've had too much bread, aioli and meats

- Beer after gym 😍

- Got given a 'lick' aka leek cold cream soup which i (fred) originally thought was a shot of liqueur from her explanation. Really threw us off but was decent.

- Traditional 'paella' isn't made in the same way in Cádiz instead it's the seafood and rice broth which we tried tonight!

- Was gooood! but just having a lie down now, too full 🦐

Day 6

- Another day at the coworking office. It's actually lower temp in Cádiz than Leeds for a few days!!

- Cheeky lunch for Beccs

- Whilst Freddie got lectured by the man at the Town Hall when trying to get a fishing license about all the necessary documents (which he doesn't have) in spanish, safe to say it was unsuccessful. Going again tomorrow armed with a translator!

- Enjoyed a post-work mooch around the shops! Sooo many dogs around Cádiz, it's heaven

- Homemade tea as we'll probably eat out over the weekend! Tried to recreate the 'Papas Aliñas' that they have on the tapas menus here in cádiz, with fresh onion and tomato.

- Fred tried to find some spots for him to go fishing on his day off tomorrow

- this one was scarier than it looks, slipping between the rocks with the swell pushing my tackle back into them.

Day 7

- first look at the cathedral on the way for round 2 of trying to get a fishing license.

- I had to go to the police station and foreign office armed with the help of my old spanish teacher and it was still an unsuccessful mission.

- thankfully the fish aren't arsed whether you have a license or not and this thick lipped mullet jumped onto my hook chasing some bread after only 5 minutes!

- He's quite a big lad for a mullet as they only average about 35cm

- unfortunately that made for a tough job getting him over this sea wall, my £8 temu rod nearly saw its end.

- he also probably had the ride of his life flying back through the air into the sea as I didn't have a bucket with me to keep it!

- with no fish to take home we headed out for a nice tea!

- becca had bull tail 😵 and I had tuna belly! we also had croquetas and crispy prawn starters

- then onwards to a rooftop bar for cocktails and sunset!

- unfortunately the night was called there as I appear to be allergic to something we'd had!, I'm alive though dw :)

Day 8

- Big lie in on Saturday morning followed by a trip to the gym & jacuzzi

- We had lunch up on the rooftop & video-called into Jack & Meg's gender reveal 🩷

- Then hung the laundry out (soo much better than in our tiny flat at home)

- We attempted to get the boat over to Santa Maria for the evening, but all the boats were full :(

- So.. we had some time to kill before it was an appropriate spanish tea time 🍹

- A bit of dancing in the street 🕺

- We ended up at a tiny restaurant within the sea wall, very cosy

- We ate more tapas (shrimp omelettes again, pork, calamari, potato salad). We laughed at a text from my dad saying Do they not do veg in cádiz? It literally doesn't come with any meal here 😅

- After paying €5, it turned into the most spanish evening we've ever experienced...

- They even had a flamenco dancer 💃

Day 9

- We went to Playa Santa Maria del Mar which is the beach a little bit further away, past the cathedral

- We finally bought beach chairs & pitched up for a few hours with our cooler bag full of beers and fanta

- We love that it's breezy here, you never feel too hot! But it does mean Becca got burnt as usual 👀

- Enjoyed a fresh sandwich from a little restaurant near by & swam in the waves for a while

- We planned to have Sunday night in as we were shattered, but we did forget Carrefour wouldn't be open on the way back!

- Instead, we went to a mexican which is only a few minutes from our flat. We had nachos to share which were actually really nice & then we had fajitas and enchiladas.

- then an early night :)

Day 10

- Not many photos taken on Monday, we just had a day of working from home. Fred recreated the Pret Smoked Salmon, Egg & Avo baguette for lunch which was so yum!

- Another trip to the gym after work

- Then another tasty homemade dinner, which we enjoyed after eating out for a few nights. It was an Andalusian style stew with chorizo, chickpea, onion, peppers...

Day 11

- Fresh sandwich during our lunch break!

- We went to the gym after work again as we're trying to keep our home routine🙏, had another homemade tea & went for a wander down the seafront

- With a stop off for a drink at a pub where they have this huuuge dog as a regular 🤩 we loved him

- Then sat on the rooftop for sunset. Gorg day!

Day 12

- We had a WFH day including sausage, egg & tomato breakfast and waiting for our TV to be delivered. We'd been struggling to get it delivered because we have no bell on the ground floor so we stuck a note to the front door 😅

- I got my nails done after work, I somehow found another woman who does it from her apartment but she was really nice & was happy with them!

- Our TV finally arrived, it's just a cheap refurbished one from El Corte Ingles but it came with all its originally packaging & it's in perfect condition!

- We tried an italian nearby tonight

- it was good and we spoke to a nice scottish man who was the architect for edinburgh, cambridge and hong kong universities!

+ wine 😋

Day 13

- Can't believe it's almost been 2 weeks already !!!

- Today we were at the office again, had lunch out at a café nearby

- The waitress told us these crisps are made here in Cádiz

- The stairs up to our flat on the top floor are no joke

- I had carbonara for the first time (😯), Fred's been saying he'll make it for me to try for the past 2 years

- We ended the eve watching the Lionesses in the Euros Semi Finals, the penalties were a hard watch 🫣 but we won in the end

Day 14

- Fred had his Friday day off today so went to the gym, bought our swim caps for the gym pool (everyone wears them here!), had a haircut (below pic for evidence) then went to the pub

- I met up with him after work just in time to steal a slice of pizza, and brought my chair with me as he was going fishing. I read my book for a bit & had a facetime catch up with Anna

- No fish today, the tide was too low

- We were out for a late tea (10.30) and we still struggled to find a table! La Viña was super busy

- But once we were seated, we had more shrimp omelettes (slightly obsessed)

- Octopus

- Artichokes

- Pork with spicy chimichurri & beef ribs for mains

- We ended the night with another glass of wine at another bar & headed home

Day 15

- We've been noticing more english people walking around the old town & as we walked to the gym today there were 3 huge cruises pulled up

- Had a wander round after the gym & did a food shop for the weekend

- Tomato, jamon and burrata salad at home for lunch

- then we finally made it onto a rather choppy boat over to santa maria!

- it was very quiet when we got there but a nice chilled vibe

- then we went for a tapas and ordered 10 dishes so here's 2, mango prawn ceviche and tomato salad

- after the tapas santa maria was crazy busy until very late but we don't have a photo so here's me awkwardly standing at the bar for some passionfruit mojitos!

- cab home was rather expensive so this won't be a common excursion but we will deffo go again!

Day 16

- A very slow Sunday, one where you don't really remember what you did. But you know it was enjoyable 😊

- This was the only photo taken, finally reading the book imogen lent me

Day 17

- Sooo mad you can't see how oversized this was in real life. Freddie was using the TV as his work monitor... and somehow the angle of the photo is making me the one that looks weird for photographing it

- Proper Monday tea. But very delicious.

- Then we caught bit of the sunset on the roof, watched some TV then went to bed

Day 18

- Discovered a new fave bakery near our office 🥐

- Went for a post-work drink, they're looking v different these days!

- Then enjoyed the sunny evening at the beach, Fred even went for a dip

- & headed back for dinner at home

Day 19

- Tried to catch some sun on our lunch break in the park

- After our office day, we had a wander round the shops & then had a drink or two. This one's for the gals that want me to appear on the blog more 😅🫶🏼 Fred never takes pics!!

- We found a Moroccan place for tea, this was giving me flashbacks to Marrakesh

- The bread came out hot, 10/10

- and we had the big barbecue sharer, going home very very full!

Day 20

- Bit of fishing after work, starting to think he had beginners luck with the first fish he caught

- Another pasta tea at home

- Fred showing off his glasses tan line

- Went out for a little walk & ice cream before heading home to watch new episode of First Dates

Day 21

- The worlds largest cruise ship pulled into Cádiz today on its final test run before welcoming 7,600 passengers next month.

With all the crew just under 10,000 people could live on this ship 🤯

- It was so windy today the sandstorm forced us into the sea (becca only lasted 2 mins in the cold atlantic)

- walked down the promenade to the old castle walls for some evening drinks and relaxation

- tapas (shrimp omelettes) again!

- we have to judge restaurants based off their tortillas camarones quality now as they are always our common denominator

Day 22

- Chilled saturday - had a lie in, did leg day at the gym & then wandered through the park near our flat in the afternoon sunshine

- We booked a table at La Taperia de Columela for tea, such a good choice - the food was nice & the restaurant was good vibes

- A couple of our tapas dishes, we also had pork cheek, crispy prawns, lamb chops

- and French Toast & more wine to finish the evening!

Day 23

- Not sure if it was too much wine / not enough food yesterday, but I was not well for the first half of the day 🫣

- Fred didn't mind as he was watching the cricket, but once I'd finally been able to eat (at 4pm !!!) we went out for some fresh air

- Walked out to Castillo de San Sebastián which is along the sea wall - not much there now, but was built as a watch tower in 15th century and turned into a fortress in the 1700s

- Made it home in time to watch the Women's Euros final 🦁

- Chicken paella for tea, with leftovers for our WFH lunch tomorrow :)

Day 24 - 26

- Missed a few days of our little blog as I feel like we've settled into our routine & especially weekdays where we're working most of the day it can get a bit repetitive!

- We went to a library themed cafe for lunch on Tues where the menu was little velcro books, we liked it until Fred found a fly cooked into his sandwich 😳🪰

(note from fred: I think my spanish is getting better since i can now successfully say 'excuse me there's a fly in my bread')

- On Wednesday evening, we made our 3rd attempt at going to Casa Manteca which is one of the most traditional and authentic tapas bars in Cádiz. Each time it has been too busy, so we went at 10pm hoping that the initial rush would be over but, as you can see, there was a long queue again!!

- After seeing the queue again, we settled for Casa Tiño instead as we spotted what felt like the only empty table in la viña & at this point it was 10.30pm so we were very hungry. Turned out to be a good find, we enjoyed a few dishes including some garlic prawns and an entrecôte.

Day 27

- Today we had a wander round town after work & enjoyed a pastel de nata

- Spent an hour boring Freddie by walking round shops knowing i'm not going to buy anything 🫶🏼

- He then cooked up a lovely seafood paella for the first time !!!

Day 28

- Freddie's Friday day off consisted of lots and lots of salty prawns and a couple scoops 🍺

- After I finished work, we went to the local. It was my first visit, as he opens at opposite times to every other bar in cádiz (siesta time).

- Gorg fri evening spent at the food market. Cheap beers & lots of food stalls. Freddie's fear of pigeons means we were waiting until dark to eat here as there are so many in the day time.

Day 29

- On Saturday we took the train to Jerez de la Frontera which is the closest city to Cadiz. We arrived thinking that it was going to be a lot busier & have more of a shopping scene than Cadiz but it was super quiet before 8pm.

- We were glad that it was a pretty place to walk around since all of the shops were closed. But it did eventually get too hot, so stopped for a snack in a small taberna & accidentally sat in on a flamenco show

- Once we'd looped round the centre, and seen the cathedral, the only thing left to do was have a pint & glass of wine. What a shame!! 🤭

- Later on, we went to a michelin guide restaurant - the food was nice but we're not really sure it was worthy of the michelin recommendation.

- Then found ourselves running for the train with bellies full of tapas & wine 🫣 We made it by only 10 seconds (but did have to jump in a taxi minutes away from the station explaining that we were about to miss the last train home)

Day 30 - 32

- Catching up on the blog... Sunday, Monday & Tuesday consisted of a beach day followed by homemade paella

- Freddie's first bubble tea 🧋

- Evening walks to get the steps in after work!

Day 33

- New nail day in Carolina's apartment 😅 So random because I found her on instagram & it turns out she is married to Dario who is the guy that manages our flat

- We went to a an asian fusion tapas bar for dinner & ordered "mix of asian dishes" which turned out to be sushi, mini poke bowl, a prawn dish and some scallops

- Before heading back we had a drink at a bar ran by a little old spanish man

- We also couldn't help but order these garlic prawns, we'd seen someone else order these previously & they smelt so good. He was really amused that we asked for some bread to dip in the garlic oil & brought half a loaf 😂

Day 34

- We had another day at the office, and a chilled evening saving ourselves for our weekend away in Seville!

- The only photo of Thursday revolving around food as usual - our Burrata & Chickpea salad with a fresh lemon dressing and the sweetest tomato's in all of Cádiz.

Day 35

- Friday morning we set off to Seville, caught the train which was only an hour and a half. Within an hour of arrival, we knew we needed to revisit when it wasn't so hot. Such a gorgeous place but walking around in 40 degrees is not for the weak!

- We stopped for tapas & a drink. The food here doesn't look the best but it was sooo tasty. This was the andalusian tuna.

- and the pork cheek tasted like a stew from home, in the best way.

- After a short walk around & a dip in our rooftop pool, we got ready for the evening and headed across the river for a few drinks & more tapas!

Day 36

- First stop was La Mala brunch for eggs benedict, breakfast bagel & green smoothie to maximise the energy

- Dad was recommending to do an e-bike tour which we would've liked to do but was concerned that we wouldn't be able to do 3 hours in the heat.

- So we got on the lime bikes instead and had a ride around to see a few of the tourist attractions

- Everywhere you looked was honestly stunning, I need to go back as we definitely didn't see everything

- Geography geek in action

- Each province had their own tiled section for the World Exhibition Fair. As it's our home for 2 months, obvs we had to get pics in front of Cádiz 🫶🏼

- Many steps later we went back to our hotel to get ready for a lovely eve of rooftop drinks & delicious food

- Tonight we shared cod croquettes, korean chicken wings & scallops (yes, we've got into the habit of ordering too much😅)

- Then a 500g steak - soooo good but we literally couldn't move

Day 37

- We woke up, had a final dip in the pool & then went out for breakfast. We were enjoying being able to order frappes and iced coffees, both of which you'd rarely find in Cádiz

- Beautiful Seville on our way to the train station

- After the train journey home, we had a walk down the front

- and stopped for a pizza before having a much needed early night

Day 38 - 40

- Catching up the blog as we had a week of pretty much working & relaxing before our first visitor this weekend. To summarise what you missed: a few days of...

-visiting more nice cafes & restaurants. We've been here over a month & still somehow have only visited a few places more than once.

- gorg home made food (our spanish attempt at sausage & mash)

- tinto de verano at sunset (red wine with lemon, new favourite)

- and more cádiz style paella

Day 41 - 42

- We cooked together on Thursday. Freddie gave me the messy job of combining yoghurt and flour to make the flatbreads whilst he made tzatziki, chopped up the salad & cooked the chicken

- Then on Friday we visited what we called the Spanish chippy. We always walk past it, and people are coming out with their takeaway bags. 16€ for what we thought was fried fish, chicken & chips - not realising they give you a full rotisserie chicken 😅

- It lasted us 3 meals!!!

Day 43

- Sharon arrived on Saturday morning so we went to the station to meet her, had a very quick pit stop at home before catching a boat to El Puerto de Santa Maria

- One of the ex-pats on a facebook group told Freddie where he could watch the city match, but it was closed when we arrived. In the end, we had to get a taxi miles out to a pub that we had said over the phone that they'd put it on

- We got some nachos to put us on as we had planned to go back into santa maria town for dinner

- But after the match we soon realised that it was near to impossible to get a taxi back 🫣 we called the number they gave us 92 times & sat at a bus stop waiting for a bus that never came

- 2 hours later we arrived home 🥲

Day 44

- Beach day at Playa de la Victoria today for Sharon's birthday 🥳

- Then out for an evening of italian food & cocktails 🍹

Day 45

- We spent today showing Sharon around Cádiz & did a few of the tourist attractions that we hadn't got around to yet

- Roman theatre of Cádiz, the remains were only discovered in 1980

- We also climbed the Torre Tavira & did the Camera Obscura 360 tour.

- Then in the evening we walked to La Viña, for drinks & some tapas!

- We finally found some good patatas bravas!

Day 46

- Freddie & Sharon had a day of mooching & going to the beach - i met them after work to catch the last of the sun

- We went to the argentinian restaurant for tea & freddie finished this huge platter

Day 47

- Office day for us today & we met Rita. This was us thinking she was cute coming over to see us, little did we know she waited until everyone else left the office for lunch & did a huge poo on the office floor 😭

- Then after work we went with Sharon to check in her hotel, and had a cocktail round her rooftop pool before heading out to the Morroccan restaurant for tea (how gorg is her rooftop view?!)

Day 48 - 52

- Brad & Joe arrived on Thursday, so we went out for some tapas & met Sharon for a drink

- On Friday we decided to go to Seville again to watch a Betis football match. Even though the game was a bit rubbish, the atmosphere was so good & we had a fun time!

- Putting lots of days into one here because I forgot to take pics & we were just so busy!

- Saturday we stayed in Seville until around 4pm, and then took the boys to La Viña in the evening & for drinks out in the Woodstock. Joe met his enemy - a girl acting like she was the manager of the pool table, not letting us take our turn

- Sunday we went to the beach in afternoon & then headed over to Santa Maria in the evening for pizza & drinks!

- Brad & Joe went home on Monday and Freddie & I very much did nothing. We were so tired after a few late nights and a busy week

Day 53 - 55

- A few days of eating at home, work & relaxing. On Tuesday, we went for a nice walk down the beach

- Wednesday was a WFH day - we were craving home food so we made jacket potato, cheese & beans for lunch

- & a few drinks in the evening (after saying we'd have a few days off🫣)

Day 56

- Freddie rented a bike on his day off & cycled down the coast to Cortadura beach. No pic of the bike but he did enjoy a burger at the beach bar.

- I met him after work & we stayed at the beach for the evening!

Day 57

- Saturday morning we packed up & said goodbye to Calle Navas. Our flat had been double booked for September, so we had to move into another one. This photo is only half of our belongings 😬

- We weren't allowed to move in properly until 4pm so to pass some time, we went to a cafe near the cathedral for some lunch. The cathedral square had been taken over by a Moroccan market...

- There's usually a queue to get into the cathedral but probably because of the market you could go in straight away today. So we thought we should probably take the chance whilst we could! It was big inside but nothing is going to be as impressive as St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

- The ticket included climbing the tower, the view was probably the best part

- Shortly after, we moved into our new flat & tried to unpack a few bits before Max arrived to stay with us for 4 nights. Tapas for tea was a must, I didn't get any photos - except for this one which was a sorry looking plate of lamb chops!! (this was before eating them...)

¿Donde esta el carne?

Day 58

- Sunday beach day of course! 🌊

- We watched Brighton vs Man City in the Woodstock, Max is a Brighton fan & they won so Fred wasn't happy 😅

- Knackered after a day of sun & sea, we finished the night with a 50cm pizza (photo doesn't do it justice!)

Day 59

- We all booked Monday off to extend the weekend & took Max to Torre Tavira which we'd done with Freddie's mum. So he could have a quick tour of Cádiz!

- Then headed further along the beach to Cortadura, had a swim in the sea, a few drinks & some seafood

Day 60

- We all worked from the office today & sneaked out for a nice lunch

- Steak sandwich was so good, thinking we might return when my brother visits next weekend

- Jerez is famous for its sherry, so whilst in Cádiz we were saying we must try it. The sweet ones were easier to drink than the dry but I honestly hated it & don't think i'll be having it again

- It was a cool place though. So old school that the bartender wrote what each person ordered in chalk on the bar

Day 61

- We all worked from home today, Max was leaving in the evening. We woke up to a construction site downstairs & them having unplugged our wifi 😅

- They'd left by the afternoon so it was a bit quieter. We got some bits for a late lunch from the market, said good bye to Max & had a relaxed evening in

Day 62 & 63

- Thursday & Friday were days of lots of food 🫶🏼

- Fresh market smoothies

- Homemade burrata & tomato salad

- Big steak & slow cooked cod (under all the garlic) to share

- Pork solomillo (tenderloin) cooked by Freddie with a onion & white wine sauce inspired by the Jerez Sherry pork dish we've ordered a few times since being here. Soooo good

- Bedroom ready for Adams arrival tomorrow! Woohoo

Day 64

- Fred had a haircut & I went to the shops to get some bits in for when Adams train arrived

- We had a day at the beach, had a few drinks at the beach bar in the day & took Adam to La Viña in the evening for some tapas

Day 65

- We caught the boat over to Rota for the day. There is a US Naval Base there & you could see their military ships as we were pulling in.

- We stopped for a 'snack' before we went to the beach but accidentally ordered a 25€ full squid alongside a big plate of croquettes and prawns 😅

- Fred happy with the chair he dug himself

- It was a cute little town, not loads there but definitely more than i was expecting. After a few hours at the beach, we had some time to spare before heading to the boat home so we had a wander past the castle & down the front to get an icecream

Day 66

- Monday we showed my brother round Cádiz - to our old house, Caleta beach, down the sea front & round the roman theatre

- Had a drink & montadito at our old local pub and relaxed for the afternoon

- The boys had a steak dinner & I had a burger. Then we headed to the cathedral square for a drink for Adams last night!

Day 67 & 68

- A few days of relaxing & working & eating good food

- Fred made the pork again but with chimichurri this time

- We had some nice pasta lunches to use up some of our cooking bits

- and managed to go to a tiny tapas bar we'd been meaning to go to.

- we tried their mussels, tortilla de camerones, papas aliñas, gambas fritas & tuna skewer

Day 69

- Completed our last day working before heading home 😯😯

- And of course, we got ready & headed out for our penultimate evening in cádiz for tapas

- We went to La Candela for the second time. The waiter said he only had a big table - so we said okay & didn't realise he was going to sit us on a table of 4 with another english couple (they weren't far off leaving though so it turned out fine!)

- Soo many nice dishes here

- Lemon & pistachio cream cake 🫶🏼

Day 70

- We booked our final day off work, packed some of our suitcases in the morning & headed to the beach at lunch time

- Such a gorg day for it

- I'd been wanting to go to Atarde rooftop bar ever since we started coming to the longer beach. We finally made it on our very last day!

- We got ready for our final night 🥲🥲🥲

- Fred looking happy with his beer

- Cafe royalty was super busy over the summer & we'd looked in a few times. So tonight we decided to go for the set menu - you get 3 tapas, glass of wine and a dessert each for 26€

- It was super empty tonight - we'd noticed things getting quieter now it was September. No complaints as it meant the food came really quick :)

- The roast beef & scallops were the only ones I took a photo of but we enjoyed all of the dishes!

Day 70

- The final blog post 💔💔💔💔

- Sad to be leaving Cádiz, but so excited to see everyone back home and see what is next for us. We've had the best summer & loved everyone coming to visit us!
