Bologna

We took a day trip to Bologna, Italy today to meet up with Lindsay’s family friend. It was a 35 min train ride from Florence. We left at 10:30am and got back around 6:30pm. Her family friend knows that little city very well so she showed us around and told us all about the history. There is so much there she said it was there before the romans.. so long ago! The churches are huge and so beautiful! In one square section of the city there is 7 churches all connected to each other. She then brought us to this lunch place that you walk through the line and grab whatever you wanted. I got this tortellini with cheese and spinach in the middle was some kind of white sauce and a plate of some sort of veggies. It was a tomato with cheese and breading on the inside and some mixed veggies as well. And of course there was bread because it’s with every meal. And she also bought us mozzarella cheese and salami meat platter (fresh cheese- so good) and she bought us red wine that was amazing too! After that we walked around a bit more. There are two huge towers in this small town and one of them looks like it’s leaning and about to fall over. Also this a long side street that has lyrics that are hung down the whole street (a couple pictures below and in a different language) but it’s from a famous singer who passed away recently but they were from that town so they made that street after his song! And they sell fresh cheese and noodles everywhere there and have so much meat for sale, one picture below is just tons of hams hung in one store. Food is the biggest industry around here. Then went to get gelato and that was my favorite place so far. One of the flavors I got was dark chocolate and it wasn’t too rich or too sweet! It was also vegan so mom and Britt you guys could have it :) then once we got back we went to dinner with 4 other girls we met at our hostel and if you buy a drink you get an unlimited amount of the buffet and there was so many options and they kept bringing out new options. I went up for 3rds and there was something new every time 😍 (only took a pic of my first place though) there was a mixture of everything.. to name some there was bread, pizza, tortellini, some type of spaghetti, couple cold pastas, rice dishes, meatballs, other slices of meat, veggies, little sandwiches, 3 different types of lasagne and that wasn’t even all... I definitely got my money’s worth there. Wow! And the drink I got was an apple martini- so gross and everyone’s drink was strong and I could not finish that for my life so everyone tried it and everyone thought it was disgusting. Every time I toon a sip I had to chase it down with food- do not recommend... after that we went to this dessert cafe close to our hostel and they had so many choices! I got a cannoli (one of my favorite things ever still) and this time it has chocolate chips on it, could eat those everyday!
