Hi everyone!

I probably should have started an online journal while I was abroad, but here I am a month later! Just wanted to put all of this in a convenient place where I have all my memories put together and available to share!

I will list the date or dates of travel for each location at the beginning of each entry.

Now, off we go to Stockholm, Sweden!

Stockholm, Sweden | 5/21/18

As the plane landed in Stockholm, an overwhelming feeling of excitement hit me. After an 8 hour flight, which I had not slept at all on, I had finally arrived and was sort of ready to take on the day (again I was absolutely exhausted). Getting through customs was actually very easy and baggage claim was extremely easy. This was all such a big relief for me since it was my first time traveling abroad and traveling alone. One of the first experience of culture shock I had was the bathroom. Not all bathrooms in Sweden were like this one in the airport, but there’s not way I’ve ever seen something like it in the U.S.

Everything you needed was all in one compact little space! I loved it.

After baggage claim, I went toward the exit and met up with the study abroad organization’s representative. I had to sit with another student while we waited for a few other people to arrive. From there we would go to our housing.

On our way to our housing, I met Hannah and Taylor, who both went to UNC! They were both in my social psychology class and I was so glad to have met some people I had things in common with. The one student I was waiting with earlier... was kind of a dud.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of our housing, but it was a big mustard colored building with green window curtains.

*insert picture if I ever find one*

After we met our RA’s and go situated into our rooms (I miss good ole 1311), we went with our RA to Hemköp, a grocery store that was connected to our T-bans (metro) station. We helped pick up groceries for our dorm wide dinner (there were only about 20 of us living there though).

When we got back to our dorm, I think i had the biggest brush with culture shock. I really missed home and I begun to feel super anxious. Was I really meant to be here? Should I really even be doing this? Am I old enough? Responsible enough? Because of my extreme exhaustion, I took a good two hour nap, which helped me get past the most of my anxiety. I’m proud to say, this is the worst I ever felt on this trip, so it was all good from here on out!

Later on, we had our dorm dinner/meeting and got to meet some of my classmates! Then off to bed I went.

Happy FDOC!

Meeting up with some of my fellow classmates, we took the T-band for the first time! The metro system was very easy to navigate since we got to stay on the red line the entire trip.

Above was our home T-bana stop!

Then we got a little lost on our way to our class building, but we found it thanks to google maps!

During our orientation, we went over a lot of rules and customs in Sweden. We ended it by singing Dancing Queen as a group, lol!

After orientation, we went on a self guided tour of the old town, Gamla Stan.

We then had our first day of class! Safe to say our professors were amazing! They were UNC professors that came to teach us abroad.

Later that night, my classmates and I went to go find an outlook of the city that was close to our housing.
