It all started with an email from a woman in Australia who wanted to swap homes for 6 weeks. \240Harvey said he was interested in going but we would have to bunny hop to get there! \240So I got busy! \240First thing booked, a two week cruise to Greece with a couple of stops in Isreal. \240Unfortunately, due to the war, we weren’t going to Isreal so we changed it to 1 week cruise to Greek Islands and then 5 days Airbnb on Santorini since the cruise didn’t go there.

At home, getting clothes sprayed against the terrible mosquitos! \240First picture of our new scrapbook!

And now Hurricane Helene may be knocking at our door as we are trying to leave!
Todays the day! \240We leave for our bucket list trip! \240Since Lisa’s initial email, I have had a bout with my leg (still fighting me), a small skittish with melanoma 2 weeks before our departure, a wedding with the most wonderful man ever in my life, and Helene knocking on our door! Its been a busy year but we are packed and ready to go!! We have also upgraded our technology and have an AirTag on each backpack and carry-on…let’s hope we never need them! \240Uber leaves at 3 with our flight to NYC on JetBlue \240scheduled for takeoff at 5:55pm. \240Helene, please leave us alone!
Hopefully the first lounge of many in Terminal C in Orlando and it was a success! \240We were the last ones in before they shut from too many visitors. Great food and a little rest before our adventure begins. \240Luck is with us so far!!

We landed about 20 minutes late since we had to circle the airport for 45 min…evidently the president was there and he had precedence! \240I ran to the restroom while Harvey got us directions to hurry to terminal 7 from 5 currently to get our boarding passes and clear through security again! \240Thank goodness we had priority seating and a short line of 2 compared to the majority of other peons! \240And I’ve never seen an easier TSA clearance! \240Got to the gate with 1.5 hours to wait!!
Norse Airlines…HOLY COW! \240What an amazing flight! \240Soooo glad I got Premium Economy! \240Their label for business class. \240What amazing seats, food and service! \240I’d definitely fly them again!

We landed! \240We are in Greece! \240First country of our ATW trip! \240 We took the blue line metro then red and then walked about 20 minutes to finally get to Evie’s house! \240She was just coming home from work. \240We go up 1 floor to her apartment and was shown around, told about Frankie and being mindful of not allowing her in the room with a balcony door open. \240Also shared that her dog had ran away 2 weeks ago. \240She is still hopeful that he’ll come home still. \240And she was gone…Frankie was our responsibility!

We ran to the market and picked up some yogurts, milk, granola, cheese and chocolate (the essentials) and came back home and went to bed.
So, typical of Harvey, he wakes up at 1 and goes out to the office balcony to enjoy fresh air, comes in and doesn’t latch the door and comes to sit a minute on the couch. \240He falls asleep and wakes up about an hour later and the office balcony door is open and no Frankie! \240I wake up at 3 and go to check on Harvey and hear the story. \240Could it get any worse on our first day here??? \240Oh yes it can!

Frankie!
After initially freaking out a little, I look out the balcony and Frankie is on the next level below us on the steps. \240She’s very skittish of us. \240I take a slice of cheese (thankfully we just went to the market) and I throw pieces out rolled up in little balls luring her into the office. \240So Harvey goes back to bed and I lay there praying so very hard for Frankie to come back inside. \240I keep getting up to see if Frankie is going for the bait. \240Finally, I see a cat on the balcony!! \240I run back to the bedroom and tell Harvey that Frankie is almost home. \240I go get some more cheese and make more little balls through the office and into the kitchen.
I then go back to the living room to wait for Frankie and a celebration! \240Did I mention that I was praying REALLY hard? \240Anyway, while waiting on Frankie, I heard a hissing in the office! \240I jump up and there’s not 1 cat, but 2 eating the cheese!!!
I yell for Harvey to get up and help me. \240I’ve got 2 cats in the office and I hope at least 1 is Frankie!!!
Praise God, we get rid of 1 cat and it wasn’t Frankie!! \240Frankie is now home, fat and happy with all her cheese, and Evie doesn’t need to worry about her dog, she has 2 cats!! \240The black cat won’t go away!!
And just think, we still have 103 more days on this adventure!! \240🤣😂

Met at 8:00 with a Viator trip to the Acropolis, Parthenon, and then a visit to the Acropolis museum. \240Enjoyed our walk up! \240Population of Athens 5m, 11m all of Greece. \240We listened almost 4 hours to our tour guide and still couldn’t tell you what it was all about! \240But I can say that I’ve been there! \240Hot today about 90. \240Temperatures are similar to home.

After we finished with the Acropolis Museum, we spent 3 hours trying to get a legal print out of a document and mailed. \240 Jiminy! \240I thought the US post office was slow! \240We caught a cab on the way home and the driver tried to scam us and double the price from 20 to 40 euros! \240In hindsight, he would only take cash, and he didn’t have a meter, so probably was a major scammer! \240We said no and jumped out. \240Ok, so actually I pushed Harvey and said, No…go! \240I had read how many pretend to be a taxi driver. \240We were exhausted from our short night of sleep thanks to Frankie and quickly crawled in bed for a nap. \240What an exciting 24 hours!
Slept in this morning and Frankie and I became better friends…a little more cheese didn’t hurt!

BFF Frankie!
High today was 90. \240We walked down to a local restaurant about 25 minutes away and had a great ravioli with spinach in them and Harvey had the most tender lamb and pasta. \240Came back by Uber…my leg was acting up again and needed the rest. \240Harvey took a nap and I hung up the light load of laundry to dry. \240Almost time to start our next leg of the trip…the 7 day cruise! \240Athens was nice to cross off my list and IMO, 1 day was enough to visit. \240It was just a big city…
Boarded our new home for the next week at 12:30. \240Went and had a glorious lunch buffet with very fresh food and they even had Appenzeller cheese! \240I think I’m going to like this cruise!

A nice welcome with fruit, cheese and a bottle of champagne to say Bon voyage!

With a beautiful verandah for each suite. \240Harvey has a place to go every night without worrying about a cat slipping out! \240Got a cute little magnet to always remember Frankie. \240We listened to a British comedian…he was good!
Monday- slept in and took a nap later on. \240I think the Dramamine knocked me out. \240Had our day at sea. \240We went and listened to the country western singer from Wales. \240She was great! \240We stopped by the casino for a couple of hours playing but little winning. \240I came on up to go to bed for our early rise and tour of Limassol, Cyprus tomorrow.
Our port of call today was Limassol, Cyprus…2nd country on our list. \240Rise and shine for a 8:15 4x4 trek in Cyprus. \2404 of us sat crunched all the way in the back for a 5.5 hour bumpy and hot ride. \240No archeological sites but enjoyed visiting a couple of small towns. \240The views reminded me of hikes in NC and sadness for all in the NC and SC states from the devastation from hurricane Helene.

We also visited a cute ski hotel for a cup of coffee/tea and a bite of cake. \240Then back in the jeep and a stop at a “little” local winery that produces 380,000 bottles a year!

Then back to the ship for formal night to wear our ballgowns and tuxes! \240We left ours at home since they wouldn’t fit in our carry-ons or backpacks. \240So we weren’t allowed to eat at the fancy restaurants, but we did dine at The Colonade and had escargot, lobster (nice sized) and already out of his shell, and split a chataubriand! \240I’ll take being kicked out if I can always have that meal!!

Ship was rocking a lot yesterday, took a Dramamine to help me go to sleep at night! Today’s port stop is Antalya, Turkey. \240Our third country of 11. \240Started the morning with a special tour of the Antalya Museum. \240Very interesting! \240Special tour provided for free by our travel agency.

Then on to the Aspendos Theatre! \240Best preserved ancient theatre in the world. \240Hard to believe no earthquakes have destroyed. \240Earthquakes are very popular in this part of the world. \240Learned a theatre is only 1/2 circle…amphitheater is a whole (2 half circles).

About a 45 minute drive but absolutely loved this tour! \240It was hot out, I can’t imagine going in the summertime, but so interesting to hear about how they lived, how the architecture was built and amazingly how so much architecture survived!

Next stop Perge! \240City for the wealthiest. \240Location where most of the artifacts were found because of the wealth in the area.

12,000 could sit in the stadium, the horseshoe above the pinned 1 - wrestling, track and field, chariot races, gladiator fights in the gated off arena. \240Seats survived through the ages.
No morter used to build the arches.
Had the very best Turkish lunch at a restaurant overlooking the bay. \240Shared our table with the tour guide and his wife. \240We got a special pumpkin dessert that was out of this world!
Then we came back to the room and didn’t take a nap since it was already after 2! \240Walked around the shop a bit then back to the room and I ordered a Caesar salad and chocolate soufflé. \240We went back to the casino and I came back while Harvey played about 10 minutes more. \240He’s now just $120 in the hole! \240Another early rise tomorrow!
Still in Turkey and port of call Marmaris and today with our guide Frieda!

Early morning wake up to watch the sunrise as we were coming into port at Marmaris.
Took an hour long bus ride to this river…beautiful day!
Tombs about 2400 years old…for the rich!

Pomegranates everywhere as big as apples!

Climbed up the hill to see the ruins. \240Definitely another exercise day! \240Theatre is Greek…only for plays and comedies.

Then we stopped at Iztuzu beach to see the turtles. \240They also have a turtle sanctuary here!
Very enjoyable tour but boy was she talkative!

I’d guess we’re in Turkeye!

My honey…in Turkey on an absolutely beautiful day!

Got back to the room and had our happy honeymoon and retirement party with 2 bottles of wine, rose petals on the bed with 2 swans towels kissing to make a heart, and a hot tub drawn with rose petals floating!
Then after dinner, came back to the room and had a tray of truffles and chocolate covered strawberries! \240What a delightful day and celebration!
Another early morning! \240Hiking an hour and a half and learning about the history of the island and checking out the old leprosy colony on the island of Crete in Ailos with Evie, our tour guide! \240180 miles long. \240About 600,000 inhabitants with about 20,000 in Ailos.

Crete is the largest island making up modern day Greece.

350 lepers at one time. \240Over 1200 for the life of the colony and approximately 70 left at the end of the colonization. \240We learned all about the takeover of the island several times then they forced the lepors to live there. \240They received a small pension to barely survive.

Short but enjoyable trip! \240Headed back to ship to enjoy a glass of wine and a charcuterie board from room service! \240(which never came!) Then off for a 100 minute massage while Harvey napped!
Then time for our special dinner reservations at Soleil! \240

We split a 32oz porterhouse that was out of this world! \240We also got a side of prawns that were bigger than most lobsters! \240The white asparagus on the side was delicious! \240When we were 1/2 way thru, Harvey started eyeballing the bone! \240How do we get a doggie bag to take home?!! \240We told the waiter we wanted to wrap up the meat and bone to take back to the room… we couldn’t leave it for waste! \240He told us he had to ask the manager!!! \240How embarrassing! \240He came over and discreetly said he would send the leftovers to our suite! \240He \240then stated that the bone was his favorite part! \240We cracked up…this staff was amazing!!

Welcome to Milo’s! \240City on the island of Platka.

Slept in this morning without an alarm clock for our last full day on the ship with no excursion plans. \240Walked around town a little seeing the tourist shops and bars. \240

Sat at a local bar and enjoyed the day, the culture, my local beer and life in general! \240Harvey not so much his Bloody Mary!

Cats EVERYWHERE on all of the islands! \240Must represent good luck??
According to Google…Cats, in olden days, were considered good luck and were considered protectors. They were also adopted to signify the greek attitude of life, Greece then embraced cats as the free spirits they are, allowing them to roam free in the streets and lie near the ancient ruins of temples and monuments from ancient times.
Came on back to the ship to do laundry. \240Seabourn has been amazing and I hate to see this cruise end…but time to move off the boat tomorrow and on to Santorini.
Got notice this morning that North Thailand is having monsoon rains. \240Also STEP notice from India consulate that heightened awareness for terrorists on anniversary of Israeli war October 10. \240Also heard Nepal had weather issues too…geesh is it the beginning of the end??

Back to where it all started…Athens port and time to say goodbye to all of our new friends and Seabourn. \240We hope to meet again!
Now we take a taxi to the airport and wait for our flight to Santorini. \240Sky Express notified us yesterday that our flight has been delayed 1/2 hour.

Bye Seaborne!
20-30,000 eggs a day for passengers and employees! \240Next time I want to do a ship tour!

Gorgeous church on the way to the airport
Made it to Santorini and our new home for the next 5 days without a hitch! \240Cute little hotel/suite rented out through Airbnb. \240Just didn’t like the steps at night to go to the bathroom! \240Cats everywhere again!
Walked to town and had a nice dinner overlooking the ocean! \240Just what I was expecting for Greece!

Came back to the room and went to the warm tub…better known as hot tub but it wasn’t even as good as bath water! \240Slept hard, like a baby!

Suites Syrigos in Perissa on the island of Santorini…what an island!!

I was exhausted and almost fell asleep in the hot tub last night! \240Harvey got up for an 8:00 pick up for his first scuba trip of the trip! \240I waited for the delivery of our rental car then took a tour of the island to find my cooking class and then to the village to wait on Harvey’s return…had another quick Fix while waiting!

Wine cellars in the ocean!

Harvey’s diving was a bust for Santorini…no more diving days while here…nothing exciting to see. \240Instead, he will join me in my cooking class!
The people drive like maniacs here! \240Next up is our private driving tour with Paulo for 4 hours all over the island!
Some Santorini trivia today…
1375 churches on the island, but not all, actually maybe less than 1/4 hold services open to the public. \240The rest are private chapels. \240Meaning they are owned by wealthy private citizens who only hold service in their chapels on the saint’s day that it’s named after or other special family services such as weddings, funerals, and holy Friday.
No postal service, 16 years wait list for a post office box.
Peppercorns grow on trees!
Had a nice tour of 3 villages on the island - Pyrgos, \240Megalochori, and Emporelo. \240All so very unique and great storytelling.
The night of Good Friday, the church lights luminaries all around the village.

Paolo dropped us off at a great seafood restaurant in Perissa. \240Sweetest cats for company! \240Harvey had spaghetti with shrimp…with heads on! \240What a mess, but funny!
Got up and headed into Oia to have our cooking class. \240What a blast! \240We totally loved yaya and the recipes she shared! \240We made Meatballs in tomato sauce, tzatziki sauce, Greek salad and stuffed baked eggplant! \240It was all amazing! \240Even Harvey ate it all! \240Another couple from Australia joined us. \240Learned lots of cooking tips/hacks too!

Then we walked around Oia a little…I’m so glad we didn’t stay here…beautiful but too crowded. \240I can’t imagine during high tourist season.

Late morning to sleep in. \240Went to the beach and had breakfast then headed to the beach for a couple of hours and then got picked up by Tasio for our sunset tour of the island. \240He did a great job and took us to many great locations to see the other Greek islands and took fun pictures of us.
Sent postcard of Greece home!
Another morning to sleep in and head to the beach. \240Went on a winery tour this afternoon with another couple and had a blast! \240We started off with a visit to the Donkey brewery and tried 4 different beers…2 of which I liked and 2 not so much! \240Then we went to 3 wineries-all different. \240My favorite was the first with my favorite wine at only 85 euros a bottle! \240Then we got dropped off and headed out to the Good Heart restaurant for the “best traditional Greek meal”! \240Yaya’s meatballs were so much better! \240Can’t wait to make them at home!
Have had a heavy heart all day with Hurricane Milton and its impact for us and potentially going home to clean up and of course for all others.
Time to say goodbye to Santorini and end the first phase of our trip. \240Milton did not affect us much so we will continue on! \240 Next stop Delhi, India!
Only 8-10 cops on the island, do not carry guns. \240No stop lights. \240Will miss seeing and feeding all the cats that protect Greece from rodents and bugs. \240No lounge in Santorini, but stopped at the lounge in Athens for a little lunch before our next flight to Istanbul. \240Goodbye Athens!
Flight from Athens to Istanbul left late and the poor flight attendants literally served the meal and picked up trash 5 minutes later. \240We joked the front end of the cart delivered the meal and the FA on the back of the cart took it back!
I wish we had made 2-3 day stopover in Istanbul…it looks beautiful…next trip! \240Went to another terminal and waited a couple of hours to board our long flight to Delhi…once again, everything was on time…except for Harvey’s luggage according to the air tag! \240As we pulled away, 3 AirTags were grouped “with me” and Harvey’s luggage which got checked seemed to be left on the first plane in terminal F then right before take-off, it appeared to be sitting on the tarmac when we left! \240Ugh! \240When we landed in Delhi, the app showed his luggage about 2,800 miles away from us. \240Dang it! \240So we went through biometrics immigration, then through a long line in immigration and then went to get my luggage…and Harvey’s was there! \240Praise God!! \240I don’t get it, but I’m happy!
Had a red eye flight and arrived early Saturday morning! \240Orinoco guide and driver picked us up as planned!

Arrived at Sharma Farms and greeted by Arnesh and Nimboo….our chef the next 4 days and sweet collie! \240We are staying at a home exchange for the first 4 nights in a beautiful home with a chef and housekeeper! \240So many beautiful birds, including a peacock family!

Here’s our first Indian lunch...it was fabulous and dinner was even better!

Dinner was chicken and lady fingers (okra)! \240Slept like a rock off and on all day and even better that night!
Schub prahbaat! \240Good morning in Hindi! \240A day of rest, laundry and catching up on life! \240Todays cuisine was Chinese! \240Dang, this guy can cook!
Driving in Delhi…you need 3 things. \240Good brakes, good horn and good luck! \240And I add good patience!
Harvey and I are the God and Goddess for our travel guide.
26m in Delhi, 1.5b in India.
Nerve racking traffic! \2403 lane roads with 5 cars side by side!
Went to the Jama Masjid mosque…beautiful!
Saw monkeys!
Went to Chandni Chowk, the largest trading center in North India with 5400 avenues for shopping. \240Toured in a rickshaw. \240Went down an avenue full of spice shops. \240Of course we bought a spice packet! \240Each avenue is a specialty.
Saw silk and wool rug makers…tried selling us a rug. \240They made beautiful framed pictures. \240They looked like paintings. We didn’t buy anything…but they were beautiful!
Non profit organizations take care of orphans, disabled, etc…not the government.
No longer have arranged marriages. \240When a daughter marries, parents buy about 400 dresses…200 for all the female wedding party and 200 for the daughter. \240Weddings are 4 days long!
Saw the Presidents Palace…home and office. \240320 rooms!
Saw Raj Ghat, the park where Ghandi was memorialized with black marble and an eternal flame.
Ate lunch at a restaurant. \240Good food, but Arnesh is a better cook! \240But we had dessert! \240Cheesecake with berry compote…yummy!
Ended the day at the Qutub Minor-tower built to honor the Muslims. \240It is now a UNESCO heritage site. \24041 children died in 1947 when the tower steps collapsed and no one else has been allowed back in since. \240Muslims were taking over so they gave them a piece of land (now Pakistan) and many left but now Muslims presence is growing again.
Mailed package home!

Red Fort

Diabetes is prevalent in India. \240Heavy on homeopathic remedies.
Picked up our guide literally on the highway during rush hour!
Cows in the median off the road.

Then to the Hindu temple. \240Saffron color is good luck…marigold flowers and color on the flag. \240Each god or goddess has something particular in their statue…cobra, riding tiger, conch shell in hand, monkey or elephant face to identify them. \240Swastika symbol came from Hindu…represents good luck. \240Every morning they meditate (30 minutes) and pray (20 minutes).
Went to post office to mail package. \240Man outside wrapped it up and sewed it by hand with a linen like cloth…I think 5% chance of ever seeing it again!
Taking our half down the middle of the road!
Elephants are good luck.
Had a fabulous lunch again and we were only diners! \240New restaurant open only 1 week.
Lotus Temple next! \240Originated in Iran as a peaceful religion…Bali
Dropped AJ off by the metro and said goodbye.
Then walked around Lodi Garden ❤️ and then headed to the market for our dinner lesson!
Had a fabulous time with Neha. \240Used to be in Training and development and left 10 years ago and started teaching Indian \240cooking for tourists. \240We had a private lesson and had a blast! \240Went to the market first and saw the live animals and goat heads, chicken feet, and other delicacies! \240Then we went to her lovely home, cooked and enjoyed the meal with her. \240We enjoyed the conversation about Indian life and he house servant. \240Food was delicious!

Banyon tree 600 years old
Time to hit \240the road for Jasper. \240Same driver throughout the trip but we will have a new guide for each city.

Said goodbye to Arnesh, the housekeeper, and Nimboo. \240They were a delight! \240Arnesh gave us a tour of the farmhouse grounds.

Farmhouse story
Neha’s story of village helper.
Drove through terrible traffic again to get out of Delhi to head to Jaipur. \240Stopped at McDonald’s and Harvey had egg McMuffin without the bacon and muffin! \240I had a McFlurry with crushed bischoff cookies. Everyone treats us like royalty…as we were ordering, met a young man who tried helping us order on the screen and 2 girls in the bathroom line that let me go first. \240Not sure if they are honoring us for our age or because we are American.
Little “walls to help with the lights of oncoming traffic at night.

\240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240They look like tombstones
Got into Jaipur…very dirty city.

Stopped at a rug shop again and saw a few of the steps of how they make the rugs.

\240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 \240 First, the looming.
Then one caught our eye…they were beautiful!

Signing the back to prove it’s ours when it arrives!
We got one for the bedroom…and then went downstairs and got the sales pitch for the garments tailored to our needs while waiting, scarves, tablecloths and runners. \240We also saw how they stamp and make the cloth by hand. \240Got scarves for Casie and Jelena and shirts for the boys. \240Picked out a long sleeved shirt for Austin and they made it short sleeved in 5 minutes! \240I tried on a saree and Harvey a turban!

I got a square of an elephant that was stamped in the demonstration how they make fabric. \240My favorite stop so far!!

My favorite souvenir…I can’t wait to frame it!

I wanted him…free shipping!!
On to the hotel and got dropped off. \240We need to get to another ATM! \240We’ve taken out 10000 rupees 3 times so far and Euros twice for x. \240Went to the hotel restaurant for dinner and had an ok meal but miss Arnesh! \240Then the man from McDonald’s that tried to help us stopped at our table to say hello again! \240Nice young man that we joined after dinner and chatted about an hour about life in India. \240Nice evening!
Gender reveal illegal
Package with rug sent home.
Red dot day!
Ganesh new guide
Hawa Mahal…Palace of wind…953 lattice windows, 365 regular windows, built in 1799 by a maharaja so maharani could see out. Old buildings are all painted pink in Old Jaipur mandated by government.

I love these posed pictures!
Then went to Amber Fort at the top of the mountain by jeep. \240What a ride! \240You could take an elephant ride to get to the top but there is cruelty to them and animal activists are trying to eliminate their use. \240Instead, we went by jeep.

Like the Great Wall of China
Then we entered the hall of mirrors.

Our guide was cute being our photographer for the day!

Beautiful artwork. \240Many stories told by our guide but he was a little difficult to understand.

Did a drive by of a water summer palace. \240Was never used before government took it over. \240Originally built on dry land and then king built a surrounding moat and flooded it with rain water. \240The palace is 5 stories tall but only top 2 are seen not submerged.

Summer palace…surrounded by water created a cool breeze…air conditioning!
Camels used like horses to pull a cart.
Heading out of Jaipur and on our way to see the tigers on a safari in Ranthambore. \240We should have 3 safari drives the next day and a half, so hope to see lots of animals! \240First we had to stop at a pharmacy for Sanje to get meds and a wrapping for his hurting knee.
On our way out of town we saw the Hindu statues of Lord Shiva who is often depicted with a cobra snake, Vanuski and Hanuman, who has the face of a monkey and the body of a man, a golden crown, and a long tail that follows his every move.

On our drive, seriously almost hit a cow. \240He was sitting in the \240median and suddenly jumped up and decided he wanted to cross the road right in front of us doing about 60mph on the highway. \240Geesh…I think I’m going to throw up! \240If driver hits a cow, he has to pay money for it to the farmer. I think Sanje is a little gun shy now of all animals and vehicles…especially cows and motorcycles. \240He honks at everyone now! \240It’s amazing to see everybody texting while driving. \240I can’t believe we have seen only 1 accident. \240Life is hard for many people in India.
Stopped for a potty break and some shopping…but “only have to look and not buy”…we bought 3 more tchotchkes!
Made it to the Tigress at Ranthambore…beautiful hotel and they upgraded our hotel. \240Don’t know why, couldn’t understand them! \240Dropped our bags and ran to lunch. \240On the way back to our hotel, a couple of managers stopped us and said they were moving us….they upgraded our suite to one with a double jacuzzi and great porch to sit and sip a glass of wine….and a decorated bed!

Ran off to catch our jeep and try to see some tigers! \240Saw a mom and 2 of her 3 cubs! \240Saw an eagle, green parrots and a sloth bear.
Green parrots
Black face monkey and lorus monkey?
Bengal Tiger - 80+ in park, usually 2-3 cubs in a litter, this one had 3. \2401961 tiger hunting became illegal. \2401980 Ranthombore became national park.
Deer
Crocodiles
Kingfisher bird
Gold crested Eagle with a snake
Sloth bear is mean and hard to see.
Came back from safari and went to dinner. \240They made a beautiful cake for us and some other Indian dessert…a lot of sugar and Harvey loved them!
Park divided into 10 zones; zone 2 today. \240Drivers are rotated on government list. Our travel agency requested specific zones for us.

Arrowhead! \240Mother of 3 cubs.

Then dinner came with another surprise.

Popular Indian dessert…almost pure sugar and another flavor added…very tasty!
Then time to enjoy the double jacuzzi tub! \240Ha! \240We had water all over the place like an I Love Lucy episode!

Bubbles all over the place!
6:00 safari drive…saw huge male summer deer, mama nursing baby summer deer, baby spotted deer with mama, peacocks, still in search of more tigers and tigress. \240Zone 4 this morning. \240Male deer shed their antlers every year. \240Saw black face monkeys. \240You want to see the tigers so bad, your eyes play tricks on you and rocks and tree stumps look like animals!

Summer deer

Spotted deer

Spotted owl

Black faced monkeys
Painted sandgrouse…rare little brown bird that eats small stones..thats what the guide said!

Painted sandgrouse
We heard the warning call of deer about a tiger! \240We saw the male tiger…HUGE…name/number 121. 200 kilos. \240Eats 30-35 kilos a killing.

He was huge!
Mongoose, white breasted kingfisher with a beautiful blue back, lots of birds, turtle, parakeets not parrots!
Saw a jeep/truck get stuck!

This is why you don’t wear a sundress on a safari!
Female peahen, egrets
Tiger hunts once a week and hunts 20 times with success only once.
Came back, had breakfast \240then back to our room to take a nap.
Next drive at 2;00 again. \240Zone 1 this afternoon…supposed to be the best with mom and 3 cubs! \240Beautiful bird sat on our jeep.
Banyon tree…National tree of India
Finally saw paw print of female Nure!
“Bear” in Himdu is Baloo…like Jungle Book!
Love Masala Chai tea with sugar!
Deer are very much on alert…smelling power is very good! \240Deer, monkeys and peacocks give warning calls. \240Tiger is not good runners but are good hunters. \240All will run even if Tiger is not hunting.
Tigers are nocturnal. \240Female tigers fight with one another…mother, daughter, sisters.
5:20…no tiger. \240Time to leave the park. \240Unsuccessful drive, but still enjoyed the jungle. Each zone is like a different world. \240We met nice people from India, Germany, Poland, and France. \240We had the semi-private jeep that seated 6. \240Definitely, the way to go!
Harvey lost his wad of Rupees getting out of the jeep. \240As we sat down to dinner one of the head management came to us and we thought we did something wrong! \240An employee found the wad and turned it in! \240To Americans, it wasn’t a lot of money, to Indians it was…Harvey gave him a significant reward.
While at dinner, our server asked us to fill out a google review. \240We agreed…but he filled out the answers to the questions and I just did the write up!
Interesting how you check the temperature for beer and water like testing wine.
So many people loved Harvey’s pictures! \240I sent them to several and they even took pictures of his pictures! \240I love my photographer!

On our way to Agra to see a bucket list item, the Taj Mahal! \240On our way out, we saw this…

From behind…

Along side…5 people riding. \2403 adults and 2 children!
Stopped at another store/cafe for a chance to buy more stuff. \240Harvey needs to learn how to negotiate! \240Goats, cows, dogs…are smart! \240They walk along the side of the road to avoid getting hit.
Stopped at Fatehpur Sikri… the residential side and religious quarters for the king who had 3 wives. \2401 each Muslim, Hindi and Christian. \240We did not like our guide…twice he left us to explore on our own and he was always on the phone.

It started to rain. \240A soft gentle rain that was very relaxing and cooled it down aa bit.

Always proud of their service and asking how we like them.
Even cows eat out of trash piles.
Red dot day!

My favorite picture! \240A dream come true!
RT was a fabulous guide and we could understand him! \240Loved the facts and stories he shared.

Check off my top bucket list! \240So beautiful and beautiful story

Agra fort 1565 90 years to complete
Crocs and alligators, lions and tigers in moats
Keystone arches-take one arch out at top and it will collapse.
Marble flooring in front of Diana’s bench is worn down from every one sitting for a picture. \240My favorite picture was taken from there. \240RT had a photographer friend that took 93 pictures…took them all for 1500 rupees…about $18..I really only wanted about 5!
Dogs all the same in size and looks except for color
Optical illusion on column…looks like 6 sides, not 3.
Books/newspapers not allowed so you can’t just come on property to read all day.
Then came back to hotel for breakfast, afterwards, went to Agra fort …where father was under house arrest, then went to location to see and buy inlay for marble…love my elephant! \240Then went to location for black Taj Mahal…waste of time. \240Came back to hotel and took a nap! \240Got up for another cooking class…only made Paneer and roti…lady was nice and her mom helped! \240They had fixed other dishes for us like a traditional Indian family. \240But no one ate with us…they were fasting for a holiday. \240A little uncomfortable for us, done in 1 hour, but interesting. \240We ate almost all of the food! \240I loved the dessert of white pumpkin with green food coloring boiled in sugar water and scooped into small melon balls and frozen!
Sanje picked us up and drove through “shortcuts” to get home…took longer and we saw the poorest of the poor…very sad, but the ugly truth.
Harveys favorite spot…out the window watching the intersection with the Taj in the background.

Order for cooking….Seeds, paneer, spice
On the road again back to Delhi to catch a flight at 19:10 to Varanasi. \240But our local rep met us first to give us the money back from the guide that we complained about! \240We didn’t accept the money…I wasn’t trying to get him fired, just telling the company that his service wasn’t good! \240They take complaints very seriously with Odynovo!
Stopped at a small souvenir shop to get a “cheap” Taj for the tschotchky shelf. \240Bough a marble one…my luggage will weigh a ton!! \240Sent Taj post card home!
Then stopped at a rest area for a potty break and Harvey got his KFC! \240Not a fan of the crust…probably fried in soy oil.

People get on highway without a car and nothing around! \240Saw big bull on the highway that truck was using a big stick trying to get him off! \240Saw 2 guys lifting a motorcycle over a guardrail to ride on the highway…no motorcycles, tuk-tuks, or tractors allowed…saw many!
Sanje unofficially took us to a HUGE Hindu temple! \240Drove about 45 minutes out of our way to get there. \240So glad he did, it was awesome but we couldn’t take phones inside. \240Very impressive! \240Got postcards…10 for 20 rupees…about 50 cents for the scrapbook. \240Got my receipt officially stamped!
Then back to Delhi airport to catch a flight to Veranasi. \240Got into the lounge and had more Indian food. \240I loved the chicken curry! \240Ha! \240Harvey got nabbed to do a survey by the server!!
Only 1 squatty potty and 2 with no paper required and caught me unaware! \240I brought my purse with me from then on!
3.5m mostly Hindus then Muslims
Flight was about one hour late in taking off. \240Our rep for Veranasi was either really hard to understand or we were just really tired! \240Pick up tomorrow at 5:15 to watch the sunrise as the people are bathing and worshipping in the Gante River. \240We had a sweet little cake in our room for our multi- celebration trip!

Veranasi… the spiritual capital of India. \240And we had an Atheistt guide! \240He was wonderful, and such a knowledgeable spirit, but for me, took the essence of the town away. \240He was a bright young man, non-judgmental, and definitely he thought out of the box and spoke so many truths. \240We were picked up at 5:15 and taken to the Ganges River to watch the people wash themselves spiritually in the river and absolve themselves of all their sins. I tried to float a flower candle in the river and it dropped! \240The boat was too tall. \240 He shared the amazing story of the cremation proces while we watched from the boat. \240Afterwards, we walked the streets and saw the poorest of the poor amongst the many temples. \240Our guide was very bright and has been in tourism 14 years but doesn’t like it. \240My guess, he doesn’t like the exploitation of the people. \240I definitely walked away with different thoughts because of him.
Things we saw:
A dead rat, people wanting their picture taken with us, thousands of people selling a small plastic cloth on the ground of their wares while sitting Indian style, dogs laying in the middle of the road as thousands walked around, beautiful local temples, a VR demo of the rituals of the golden temple, a kindergarten class that I heard the laughter of little kids.
Came back to the hotel about 9 and had breakfast and then back to the room to wash again…felt dirty from being amidst the filth, and to bed to take a nap.
Picked back up at 1 to see and learn more about Buddha and Buddhism. \240Saw where he reached enlightenment and gave his first sermon at Sanarth (Deer Park). \240We also stopped by an archaeological location and the museum with the findings…very nice!
In the evening, we watched the daily Aarti ceremony performed at the Dashashwamedh ghats. \240It was a beautiful and majestic spiritual “performance” involving rituals performed by several priests with the sound of bells, drums, cymbals and Sanskrit mantras. \240Our guide got us seats on a frontline rooftop so we didn’t have to get into the crowd. \2401000’s of people on land and in boats. \240On the way back to the car, he got his foot run over by a motorcycle and kicked it after some words were exchanged!

Back to the hotel and had dinner. \240Had leftovers so got a doggie bag and literally fed a poochie out front! \240Made my day and hers!
I’m ready to get out of India…too much constant noise, traffic, smells, sad animals and people. \240I’m sooo glad we experienced it, but it’s time to move on! \240Tomorrow we have a yoga class then we head back to Delhi to catch a flight to Kathmandu, Nepal!
Was supposed to have yoga class, but body had other ideas…finally able to leave the bathroom after a 3-hour stint! \240Complete opposite of Delhi-belly! \240Flight back to Delhi was completely uneventful and on time.
Picked up again by Sanje! \240Drove over an hour to get to our beautiful hotel…definitely a 5*…Crowne Plaza. \240And the drive was worth the shower…fabulous! \240And the dinner buffet was top notch. \240Best buffet!
Back to the room and I crashed!
Pop 30m
Kathmandu 4m capital.
Relaxing morning with a 7:45 alarm and another shower! \240Breakfast then pickup at 10 for an hour back to the airport and a flight at 2. \240Our driver arrived at 10:15 due to traffic. \240Well, we’ve moved 10 feet in 20 minutes! \240I KNEW we should have been picked up at 9! \240I don’t anticipate making this flight…took 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot!

All because of Diwali festival and everyone going shopping! \240Black Friday at it’s worst was never like this! \24010:45 we finally started moving.
Women ride the public buses for free. \240Metros are popular and safe to ride. \240Had George as a rep and Raj as a great driver…his ears and English were great!
Made it to the airport on time! \240Thanks to George, our unfriendly rep, reminded me of the printed itineraries from Odynovo and got us into the airport and checked in! \240Went and spent an hour at another great lounge before we had to take off. \240Another flight 45 minutes late, but at least we’re on our way to Kathmandu! \240India was wonderful in her own way and so glad I had the opportunity to experience many of her different sides. \240Time to see more of this wonderful world!
The view flying in was amazing! \240Not sure if or which one is Mt. Everest, but we can pretend!!

Have Uber motorcycles
20% below poverty equal to 1,400 USD a year
Met our new guide AJ, took us to the monkey temple…Swayambhunath….appropriately named.

Then we went to Khokana Village.

Next we went to Patan Dunbar Square and went inside the palace.

Next stop Bungamati Village.

Then we went back to the room…exhausted and feeling awful with a cold. \240Lots of sneezing, coughing and blowing our noses! \240Hopefully, tomorrow is better!

11:00 pick up. \240I hate to say goodbye to this hotel…my favorite! \240They upgraded our room to a deluxe suite with a beautiful balcony with a jacuzzi tub overlooking the valley. \240Unfortunately, we didn’t see a sunrise…too cloudy over Mt. Everest, but the views were stunning! \240I’d love to come back to stay a couple of days to just walk the trails and love nature. \240Right at the foothills of the Himalayas.

Himalayas peaking above the clouds! \240Just amazing!
Yellow earth
Blue sky
Green wind air
Red fire
White water

Himalayas- house of snow
2nd longest range after Andes
Top 8 tallest mountains in the world Everest
1. Everest
2. K2 in Pakistan

Went to several more villages to see them and their temples. \240We’re not even 1/2 way through and tired of all of the temples! \240Thank goodness I changed and crossed out 1/2 that were originally on the itinerary! \240We loved the villages though.
Went to the crematorium. \240Very similar to India’s process of burning immediately after death and dumping ashes in the river afterwards. \240I hope I never die in India or Nepal!
Napolia dinner show…not worth the money or the time.
Popcorn, green beans (cooked al dente),rice wine, French fries, momos (meat dumplings) with sauce, mixed lentil soup, buckwheat bread, rice, fried fish, chicken curry, steamed spinach (not tender!), nouri???,tomato sauce (ketchup?), mixed vegetables, black lentil soup,
Early morning to the airport and say goodbye to Nepal and hello Paro, Bhutan! \240The world’s 3rd most dangerous air landing/departing strip.

Welcome to Bhutan!

Paro airport

The king and his family
The people of Bhutan literally worship their king. \240They call him their living God. \240He is the 5th generation king.

800,000 pop in Bhutan, 180,000 in Paro
No Muslims only Buddhism (majority), hinduism, and little Christianity
No arranged marriages, live with generations
Free school until university, free medical, social security payments for government workers, but not for private 65 retirement age.
Cremate everyone except children under 7. \240Mountain villagers slash the bodies of the dead and leave for vultures and other animals to eat.
Early morning start for the Tiger’s Nest hike! \240Looks like a great day for the weather!
What an amazing day/hike. \240I truly thought my heart was going to explode at some points! \240Out of shape and thin air is not a good combination!
There are 3 stopping points:
1. \2401/2 way up to the cafe
2. All the way including the 500 steps down then back up TWICE to “knock on the door”
3. \240Up to the 2500 steps with a bird eye view…that was it for me…the steps were steep and I tried 37 down and back up. \240My hip/leg said it was the end of my journey, and I was ok with that!
Was told this is a spiritual hike…it was! \240My mantra was, “Oh God, please let me make the next step!”
Came home and soaked in the tub for an hour. \240Life is good and I got a shirt stating that I climbed the Tiger’s Nest!
Our \240hotel is great…8,858 ft altitude. \240Tigers nest is at 10,286! \240The hike includes 300 steps up to the temple, 471 steps down to a bridge with a waterfall, and 471 steps back up to the lookout! \240And that has to be repeated to get back!

Our car is parked way down there! \240From our stopping place at the steps looking down.
Came home and soaked in the tub for an hour! \240Headed into town for a quick run through for some souvenirs then to dinner and home again.
Late flight so a late pick up at noon!
Bhutan never got Covid.
National flower blue poppy, animal Takin, bird Raven

Arrival Bangkok! \240Pop 15m, 65m in Thai…Bangkok is capital.

Hour drive to our hotel and Harvey went out for a short “checking out the area” while I came to the room and crashed.
Walk through the flower and vegetable market. \240Learned how to make a lotus bouquet!

Then long tail boat ride.

Saw alligators that had poison if they bit you!!???
Palace….lots of rooms! \240Not used anymore except for banquets. Only grounds are open for viewing. \240More temples and emerald Buddha!
Then off to a fabulous lunch! \240And a mango smoothie!

Started a good rain…first of our trip and it was ok since we were heading in the van back to our hotel. \240Then dropped off for a nap.
Picked up at 5 after a quick nap…exhausted from the heat.
Traffic bad but not as bad as India and quiet!
Most apartments very small with no kitchen. \240You can buy small refrigerator, microwave, hot plate. \240Generally, young people don’t move away unless they have to for work. \240Generations live with generations.
Monarchy…generally happy with the king.
Took a tuk-tuk short trip to a restaurant for rooftop view of the river at sunset.

Sunset over chaopraya river

Emmy
Then walked to our next experience eating “BBQ” street food! \240It was great, but what we called hot pot!

Then headed down to Chinatown! \240In time for a dessert!

HUGE Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand!

Fried dough with a great custard….and Michelin winner for 2018 and 2019
Then headed to another Chinese dessert shop for a couple of items. \240I tried them but Harvey wieneeied out! \240He got not 1, not 2, but 3 servings of gelato!!

We continued through Chinatown and saw many restaurants serving shark fin soup…small bowl for $200. \240Then headed home for an early wake up at 5:30!
Early pick up at 7 and drove about 1.5 hours to the train market.

Stand behind the red line! \240Train comes twice a day then backs out. \240So 4x day they must move their stands back off the track for the train to go by. \240Very nice market with more tastings and things to buy cheap. \240Then back in the car to the floating market. \240Cloudy and little cooler here so hoping for no rain!
On the way, we stopped at a coconut plantation and bought a small bottle of coconut juice, a postcard, and Harvey’s selection of a bottle opener for the tchotchke from Thailand. \240Saw how they make brown sugar from coconuts. \240Then to the floating market with a long canoe/boat again being paddled. \240We drifted from vendor shop to shop…want to buy mama?!! \240We negotiated a few things, but they still made out good on us! \240Got an elephant beach bag, elephant wooden plate \240and 2 magnets! \240Then headed to a restaurant owned by an American and his Thai wife…again, out of this world! \240Headed out and realized the bag was missing from the coconut shop! \240We stopped by it and couldn’t find it so bought everything again.
On the road to the hotel again! \240Over 30,000 temples in Thailand.
Went and got the infamous massages for dirt cheap! \240We each got 60 minutes. \240Harvey got a Thai and I got the oil massage. \240His was $9 and mine was $12! \240I actually think she got out some of my kinks!!
Then stopped by 7-11 and Emmy was right, you CAN buy everything there! \240Then back home and to bed for another 6am wake up tomorrow morning!
8:00 pick up for the airport to Chiang Mai via Thai airlines and the elephants! \240Flight 20 minutes late leaving. \240H very sick, even took an antibiotic.

Solo trip…Harvey not feeling well. \240Off to see Chiang Mai - New City! \2401.7m population. \240Highest spot in Thailand is Chiang Mai 2,200 meters.
Tea plantation-Export about 95% US, Germany, Japan. \240Can also eat.
White tea is highest caffeine and smoothies and most expensive. \240All tea from same bush. \240Tea use only bud. \240Green use 2 leaves. \240White uses only the bud. \240Takes about a month for tips/buds to grow back. \240Over 100,000 bushes. \240Had fun plucking the leaves! All we picked today will be sold to next tourist group. \240Only use employees to pick to sell to assure organic…no perfumes, lotions, soaps! \240Green tea, start processing immediately within 1st hours as not to oxidize. \240Black tea, let oxidize. \240All teas are determined by their process.
No roasting white tea.
3 steps to hand roasted green tea! \240Roast, knead, roast again!
Plantation started about 9 years ago.

Middle “stem” is the flower and only used for white tea. \240All is used for green tea.

My harvest of tea leaves!! \240I better not give up my day job!

First round of roasting

Now for some tea sampling. \240Couldn’t leave without bringing home 2 different packs and a new baseball cap!
Harvey was feeling a little better but we both just slept through dinner! \240Thank goodness for my peanut butter crackers!
Time for elephants! \240Babies stay with mom until age 3. \240Independence! \240Domesticated…can not stay in the jungle, would not survive. \240Life is different now. \240Constipation is common for domesticated. \240Love to eat! \2404 elephants here. \240Government stopped using elephants from working and could not release them to the jungle. \240People had to give them to the sanctuary, couldn’t feed them. \2406-60 years old in our group of 5 (including teenager).. \240live to 70-80 years. \240King had one that lived to 140 years!
Sitow is sick with infection
10-15% males w/o tusks…more powerful! \240

Herbal supplements made into meatball like “bons”!

Somebody has to make the supplements!!
Got back about 5 feeling nauseous and crawled into bed until 8:00 the next morning. \240Harvey headed out for dinner and another Thai massage for $9 and $3tip! \240Good thing I don’t live here! \240I’d be broke getting a daily massage!
Slept all night and woke up feeling better! Well, I was but H had a little soreness in his side from being stretched like Gumby! \240He has definitely experienced the Thai massage.I was still a little quesie on the belly so a lite breakfast. \240Then we risked our lives by crossing over the street, around the moat, and over the street again to get to the pharmacy for antibiotics. Decongestant, and cough suppressant for both of us for just 1200 baht…about $36 and no doctor visit!!! \240Then we had to cross back over the street 2 more times.
Then to the airport lounge for a FABULOUS meal! \240Harvey had duck and noodles and I had prawn won ton soup! \240Yummy! \240Phuket, here we come all ready for you!
As we boarded Bangkok airways, they notified us of reassigned seats to the front row! \240Not exactly first class, lie flat seats, but extra legroom for sure! \240Not bad for a budget airline for 2 hours!

Yaya-worst guide ever. \240Didn’t say more than 50 words…and that was ok, because she was hard to understand! \240Almost a 2 hour drive and we made it to CC’s Hideaway fro the next 4 nights. \240Time for H to scuba dive, pamper myself and a little rest for both of us!
400,000 population. \240Traffic cops wear helmets…and they should!

We are definitely up on a mountain overlooking the sea!
Well, nothing happened today! \240I didn’t leave our room once! \240H got me soda waters and I stayed in bed the whole time! \240So glad this happened at this point in the trip and nothing more was missed.
H up at 6 for his diving tour! \240I pray he has a fun and relaxing day out in the water. \240I have 2 pamper appointments for two and a half hours. \24090 minute back, shoulder and neck massage. \240Then an hour facial.
Breakfast buffet definitely the most disappointing of all our hotels but the bread and fruits were great! \240My stomach wasn’t up for anything more.

H had a great dive and my pampering was nice but I was afraid I was never going to walk again. \240I laid flat on a wooden table with no padding the entire treatment!
We had a bad spat…definitely feel we are headed for an end to the relationship. \240I know we are both tired and sick but sometimes I feel he doesn’t really want to be loved. \240I don’t know why he wants a relationship. \240He loves to flirt and talk with all women and yet can be so short and snappy with me. \240I try to care less but not sure how to stop from caring less. \240He doesn’t wipe his nose when running or his mouth when eating. \240Sometimes I find I don’t want to look at him anymore. \240I believe he loves me and I know in my heart that I loved him with all of my heart before, but I feel he’s trying to push me away, but seems so sincere that he doesn’t want a divorce…very confusing…😢
We went into town at 7 just to see Phuket. \240It reminds me of International Drive in Orlando. \240It’s mainly weed shops, pharmacies, souvenir shops,, massage places, and restaurants. \240Sooo many restaurants…how to choose! \240Shuttle picked us up at 9. \240Great little shuttle! \240I cried myself to sleep…I can’t keep doing this…😭. I really wanted a fun time in a little paradise. \240No red dot for the two of us in Thailand…🇹🇭🚫.
Still in Phuket feeling a little better but still not 100%. \240Had an Indian head massage. \240Not sure what all she did, but it felt great! \240Afterwards, we shuttled into town and went to a restaurant that served Thai, Russian, seafood. \240We both had soup and it was great. \240Caught the 5:00 shuttle back then turned around and rode the 6:00 back to catch the sunset over the beach.

Trying to get a little romance back into the relationship…then had an amazing lobster dinner grilled. \240

Came too late so we had to get it to go, but it was still great! \240All the fresh seafood was incredible!

H had big eyes and ordered the large for”only 500 more bahts”!! \240The waiter came back in a few minutes and said they were all out for Larges! \240Thank goodness! \240Took it home and shared it on our porch together. \240Hoping all is better starting tomorrow…
6:00am wake up for 8:30 pick up for our flight to Cambodia via Bangkok! \240Both flights are short, but it’s nice to have 1st row again!
Woke up with an ear ache…Hope my ear does well on the flights! \240Another great lounge in Phuket! \240Saw a ladyboy working the desk. \240Chase Sapphire has definitely been a nice little asset.
I think we are both committed to trying to make the relationship better. \240I hope we can finish the trip and seek a counselor when we get home. \240This has been a spectacular trip and I’d hate for either of us not to finish it.
All of our flights have been pretty much on time. And no missed flights. \240Knock on wood, no lost luggage, although our Apple tags have given us false negative readings often. \240I like the idea of them, but definitely not reliable.
As we originally stepped up to the customer service desk in Phuket, they slapped a “walk through “ sticker on both of us. \240When we landed in Bangkok, they literally walked 5 of us as we exited the plane to the other side of the airport for international flights. \240Ours was going on to Cambodia. \240The airport was huge and I’m assuming previously flyers got lost so decided to start hand holding. \240We walked almost 30 minutes to get to where we were going!
Had some more money to spend before we left Bangkok and came across Garrett’s! \240A taste of home! \240This time at DMK airport but no time for the lounge. \240Did see a young lady handling the trash…emptied food/drink into a bucket then put trash in a bag with tongs.

Onto the lounge and had another great one! Seim Reap Airport just built a year ago…very nice, big, and clean. \240The Chinese have made the investment in it.

Ho Chi Minh trails built as supply chains from north to south. \240Americans used agent orange to burn the leaves off the trails. \240Agent orange has affected Vietnamese for 4 generations both mentally and physically. \240American Government has still not taken responsibility. \240Why should American government take responsibility?? \240It was war!??

Lots of temples in the field
Water buffalo are clever like cows and come home at the end of the day.

Ninh Binh is a wealthy town due to all the cement companies. \240First capital until moved to Hanoi.
1995 relationship with America got better with Bill Clinton and Vietnam opened to tourism. \240Great relationship with Cambodia and Laos. \240Try to be “friendly” with China.
Enjoyed Q&A’s with Tuan…I think we all learned about each other’s country. \240Enjoyed the stories he shared as a young man.
H had to go pee…so he went in the bush on the side of the road!

Went through the area hit by the cyclone 5 weeks ago…same story as ours, just a different location.
Made it to Halong Bay for the pearl saltwater tour…had to get me a pretty pearl necklace for a remembrance of our trip. \240Then we made it to Athena Luxory cruise line….what a nice boat and we got the VIP suite on the third floor with windows all around us, private balcony, AND an electric bidet! \240It was amazing!
Had lunch on the boat then hiked 700 steps to an amazing room of caves. \240What a view from the top! \240Came down and tendered to another island that we had a choice of climbing to the top again for a view or sitting and relaxing on the beach about 45 minutes. \240We did enough climbing so decided to sit this one out! \240Then back to the boat for a shower and a little downtime before happy hour and dinner. \240Dinner was great! \240Then back to the room and a little quiet time with the full moon and to bed. \2405:45 wake up call for Tai-chi on the deck at 6:15 tomorrow morning!
11:00 and on the road to Hanoi airport to head to Da Nang. \240Had a super great time on the cruise! \240And what a view! \240Didn’t make it to Tai-chi…rolled over and hit the off button for another hour. \240We missed breakfast but that’s ok since brunch is served in 1.5 hours! \240Got dressed again in our swimsuits and went kayaking for about an hour. \240It was a beautiful morning! \240Came back and showered for brunch and packed with our luggage waiting outside the door for our porters. \240Tuan and Nguyen picked us up to head back to Hanoi airport. \240We were notified by Allison that our flight has been delayed an hour and 40 minutes…that means a longer time in the lounge!!
Learned about weasel coffee…yuk!!
Got to the lounge. \240It was nice…even had an electric bidet with a seat warmer in it!! \240Flight was pushed back another hour.

150k in Hoian. \240Dropped off at nice hotel again and straight to bed for a 9:00 pick up.
Had a fabulous and fun day!
Started off going to the local market with all the usual spices, vegetables, fruit, seafood and meat (both live and dead). \240Then we got our bikes and ferried to an island with very few cars and motorbikes. \240Dodged the rain a few times with light showers and 1 hard rain, but still able to see a wood carving family, a mother of pearl inlaid furniture maker, a family of floor mat weavers, a wooden boat maker, the rice paddies and just the simple and poor life.
We also stopped at a home restaurant for a home meal and then my favorite ride on a bamboo boat. \240It felt like the teacup ride on water! \240Had a blast going through the river and able to fish for a crab!
We then came back to Old Town and walked around a little seeing some UNESCO buildings. \240I negotiated once again for a couple of magnets and we came back to the hotel.
Went to organic farm that grows vegetables and herbs. \240Helped Bell with gardening chores! \240

Harvey giving it a try! \240Sounded like SCI!
Then we went inside to see her house and listen to son play the Danbo instrument.
Then we walked down a couple of homes to Spring Onion for a cooking class that was absolutely wonderful! \240My favorite meal in Vietnam!

Making tomato roses, carrot flowers and spring onion palm trees!

Our chef!
Then on to the airport for Ho Chi Minh City… last stop with Odynovo, then we’re on our own again!
Finally made it to Ho Chi Minh City…population 10m! \240With 8m motorbikes. \240Very fancy and modern! \240French architecture. \240Like NYC!
35% Buddhism and 35% Catholic
Pick up 8:00. 1.5 hour drive to Mekong Delta.
Dragonfruit comes from a large cactus.
Layton is a nice guide but difficult to hear and understand. \240Probably my least favorite…maybe I’m just tired…he also talks constantly.
Buddhist bells calm the heart whereas Catholic bells
Rode a private motor boat to Unicorn island and had a coconut drink on the way, bee tea and cream, cacao growing for hot chocolate mix, listened to singers and musicians play while enjoying plates of fruit and fried bananas, coconut candy making and another boat ride through a river (my favvvv!) and a horse ride! \240Pretty exciting morning!
Then time for lunch! \240Not much to it but we were full from all of the fruit we just ate!

Any they even cleaned our prawns for us!
Then we headed back out on a bike ride…avoided the rain, then 4 ferocious dogs wanted to take our legs off, then I heard the dreaded, “honey, I dropped my phone…” again…. We rode back and couldn’t find it. \240We ended up having another fight. \240I truly understood his anger at himself but I’m getting tired of not discussing and him making decisions on his own. \240I know I don’t know everything, but I also believe I have a good head on my shoulders. \240I found info on my phone for him to call Verizon customer service for international. \240He didn’t want it. \240Ok, fine. \240We came home and he wanted to shower before going out to eat. \240I didn’t want to. \240I just wanted to go out and showers when we got back and crawl in bed then. \240Nope, I waited while he showered. \240We got back to the hotel and I got ready for bed. \240It was after 10:00 and I knew tomorrow was going to be a long day for sightseeing then travel on to Australia. \240Now he wants to call and find out about his phone and needed me awake to help him with my phone. \240Another big fight.
I know I love him, but I just don’t like him right now. \240I’m tired of feeling like I’m just along for the sex. \240The rug at the condo…no discussion, it’s staying for now. \240His memory is shit and refuses to do anything in advance… we arrive tomorrow at the Great Barrier Reef…his bucket list. He finally reached out on Thursday to book his trips and 1 day is already booked. \240Hopefully the other two will be good weather and great locations. \240And he didn’t want to notify Tiana in advance because he didn’t want to confuse her about putting out another basket. \240Well, it didn’t happen and Christopher comes today. \240And parking pass?? \240Not my circus anymore…
Lost a day!
Started off the morning with a 2 hour drive to Cu Chi tunnels. \240I guess I’m glad I went, but like a German concentration camp, I didn’t feel good afterwards. \240Seeing the death traps for the American boys was heart wrenching. \240The system of tunnels was amazing, but a painful morning and filled with propaganda still from the communist Vietnam party.

Their shoes made out of tires and worn backwards to confuse American soldiers

Afterwards we came back in town and went to lunch and had the best meal since being here!

Then we went to the War Remnants Museum.

The iconic photo of Phan Thi Kim Phuc as a 9-year-old surviving a napalm attack became a defining image of the Vietnam War. \240After a 14-month hospital stay and 17 surgical procedures, including skin transplants, she was able to return home. \240Kim Phuc sought political asylum in Canada nearly 30 years ago. She now lives outside of Toronto…Jan 16, 2020.

Again, lots of propaganda and horrible pictures of agent orange destruction both to human and to the earth. \240I couldn’t take anymore so waited for H to finish.
Next was a 5 minute whirlwind tour of the Vietnam history museum.

Hinduism

Buddhism
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) really is Iike NYC…Christmas lights/docorations, big $ stores and even “Times Square”!

The bags were bigger than them!

Pretty Christmas decorations

Oldest hotel in Saigon
Ran by the post office, grabbed a postcard and mailed it. \240Only 2 to go!

Saw supposedly the CIA building where the last helicopter was leaving from.

The Opera House

NYC gonna be when she grows up!

Mickey D’s even lets you upscale to a large for less than a $1!
Said goodbye to Laytin at the airport and went looking for a lounge! \240HA! \240First one with no hot food! \240Grabbed a small bag of potato chips, cookie and some chocolate bars and went looking for something to eat!
Landed 30 minutes early into Sydney but no gate to unload! \240Plenty of time to go through Immigration, customs , get checked in and head to our lounge…with no food available…and we were starving!
More fights…this puppy has been kicked enough…time to figure out next steps and timing…
Went and got food from the food court. \240My chicken salad with mangoes was fabulous. \240H wasn’t a fan of his sandwich…shocker.
Flight to Cairns (Cans!) was an hour late so we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to get the rental car before they close but we did! \240Drove an hour in the dark, in the rain, on a 2 lane winding road, on the “wrong” side, waiting for an animal to jump out…but luckily no spotting of any Roos! \240Longest 1 hour drive of my life!
We arrived at a cute duplex! \240We love home exchange!! \240We unloaded and drove 2 minutes into town to find a bite to eat. \240Got a GREAT restaurant and H had some kind of crab creature and I had homemade gnocchi with mushrooms that was fabulous!
Started bickering with H again…just no awareness of himself…by the time we got to the gate, full blown war. \240Should I just catch the next flight home …
Slow morning getting started and went into town and had Morkee’s pies for lunch. \240OMG…I’m in love with this place! \240And obviously, so is everyone else! \240Great coffee/tea and desserts…can’t wait to go back!

Kangaroo meat for me in a kangaroo pie and seafood medley for H.

Unbelievably scrumptious and sweet!!

Sooo awesome!
Walked around town a little and got a few things at the grocery store (nice store!) and Kmart. I got signed up for snorkeling . \240Couldn’t come to the Great Barrier and not go! \240I would have always regretted it…just hope my leg holds out for at least 2 jumps. \240Then found a box on a trashcan that was perfect for H to cut down. \240Headed home for a rest!
Then headed back to town to find a light bite to eat for dinner…so was everybody else! \240All the restaurants were packed! \240Found a place with a good salad and H got a pizza that was amazing! \240I have leftovers for tomorrow! \240Forgot to take pics though!
Took H to Port Douglas for his first of two dives.

Beautiful weather this morning, I hope it stays nice. \240I’m signed up for snorkeling tomorrow too. \240Hopefully a day of rest for my leg will make for a better day tomorrow!
H had a good time but by his words, “Is spoiled living so close to the Caribbean”. \240I had a nice lazy day at home reading and catching up on my journal.
Harveys second dive at the Great Barrier Reef today while I snorkeled.

We both went out 3 times each and our last site was each of our favorite’s. \240I can now wear my shirt (with a sharpie through the word “dived”! \240Saw the amazing coral for miles, shark, beautiful schools of fish, giant/HUGE clams, huge wrasses (grouper-like big fish) and Harvey saw a big Monterrey Eel! \240Weather was a little rough going out…thank goodness for Dramamine and sick bags were needed by others. \240According to Harvey the waves were worse yesterday…glad I went today!
We came back to the house then back to town for dinner. \240Come to find out, something happened to the gas line through all of Port Douglas and the whole town was without gas! \240Impacted a lot of restaurants and they had to close. \240We went to Ironstand bar and I had the ribs that truly fell off the bone and H had an amazing steak. \240Then home and watched the beginning of Good morning Vietnam!

Yummy ginger beer (alcohol)
Got up and going to mail our box and post card at the post office then to check out Mokra’s and see if the gas shut off was fixed…and it was! \240I had the chicken and mushroom quiche and H got the steak, bacon and egg breaky pie! \240Both were great with a breakfast dessert!!

Love the little croc and Roos on the pies!
Then we visited the little church by the sea…what a lovely venue for a wedding!

Crax

The Port Douglas Courthouse Museum. \240$3 entrance fee so we passed!

Hiking on the Four mile beach trail

Nice water station sorely needed! \240It was hot out!

Stopped by Paddy’s for a cool down minute then continued our hike back to the car.
Did a little swim when we got home and watched Good Morning Vietnam with Robin Williams. \240Tried watching while in Vietnam but couldn’t get it anywhere…hummm?
Did a little cleaning then to bed to get ready for the long travel day tomorrow.
Goodbye Port Douglas! \240We loved it here…amazing little town and the plants reminded me of Hawaii. \240The pool at the HE was beautiful. \2402 bedrooms and 2 baths…perfect size!

“Quick” drive to Cairns again but much prettier during the day. \240But it was still windy and narrow!it was a little more scary because I could now see how close to the side we were!
Flight left on time to Brisbane and our luggage is checked straight through. \240Hopefully no issues on this flight!
Flight was great but the lounge wasn’t open in Brisbane…mostly red eyes probably from here…we were looking for a snack! \240Came on down to the gate and waited. \240Will it be on time? \240Hoping so, we’ve got a short evening before we have to be up again and meet the pack at 8:00!
Biodiversity in New Zealand!
Plane was delayed over an hour. \240It was a short nap and time to get up and meet our Backroads group! \24020 of us plus the leaders. \240 All of an elderly age except 1 young man.
Got our bikes, rules, instructions on how to ride an electric bike, wazoo help and kicked out of the nest for our first ride option.

I’m thinking short ride option to save myself for the second ride of the day and doing about 30 miles in total. \240Thankfully, it was a beautiful day and looking forward to the ride.
Well, the SAG wagon was there first just to see how we were doing…all was fine and it wasn’t where we were supposed to end the short option, so we kept going. \240Shortly down the road, my electric part of the bike went kaputz! \240So, we turned around and got a new bike.
By then we also noticed the wind was starting to pick up. \240And we hated the areas where the trees weren’t breaking some of the wind. \240Then it got really bad! \240I’m talking 40 mph winds! \240So, I decided when we saw or got to the van, I was quitting! \240It wasn’t fun when it wasn’t fun anymore!
A ways down the road, Emily came driving by us in the van. \240H and I put our fists out for help and she kept on going!! \240She finally stopped for us and we caught up with her. \240She had no choice but to put the bikes in the van and we crawled in too and took off! \240Long story short, only 3 made it to the restaurant! \240The wind was horrendous!

It was like a hurricane! \240The lunch buffet was great and it was nice to have a little warming up time and rest before lunch. \240And what a beautiful view! \240After lunch we were supposed to continue with our ride but it was still too windy. \240One guy even got blown off his bike and went down. \240So instead, Backroads had a hiking plan in their back pocket! \240Our guides said they’d never seen wind like that before.

We hiked this great hill founded by the locals and it had amazing rocks! \240W we saw pretty merino wool sheep and baby lambs.

Actually I’m glad we couldn’t bike anymore and got the opportunity to trek this hill instead!
Came to the hotel and got debriefed then shown to our rooms. \240We had 1.5 hours to be back for the cocktail hour with dinner afterwards. \240I was highly disappointed in the monkfish for dinner and H had some lamb ragot. \240
Then to our room and to bed for a 7:00 wake up!
Headed out for a 2 mile in and out hike (total 4 miles) with an elevation gain of 932 ft. \240My glutes felt it later! \240But the Arthur’s Pass overlook was outrageous!

Came back and took a solo walk around the hotel property. \240Loved this bench I saw…

Then H joined me for a sheep demonstration. \240There’s more sheep than people in New Zealand. \240We met 2 orphaned babies…

We saw the dogs working the flock…and bring them in.

The sheep manager grabbed one and “hypnotized” one. \240I got to pet and hug the poor guy!

Then we saw him sheer one! \240It was cool until the poor thing cried out and the turkey realized he nicked the poor guy. \240I couldn’t watch anymore…

We learned what the factors were downgrade the quality and other fascinating trivia that I couldn’t remember!

H’s favorite spot at the Wilderness Lodge at Arthur’s Pass

Started for a shuttle ride this morning to a cranberry farm and left for our bike ride from there.

Rode 19 miles with about 1,000 feet elevation then met at Hotikika and shopped (pretty pitiful!)

in town with a quick stop at the beach to say hello to the Tasman sea. \240 Then we shuttled to our stop for lunch at a home where the husband did woodcarving with 100% sustainable grown NZ timber. \240Didn’t get any pictures, but their guesthouse was amazing with all of his woodwork. \240Then drove another 2 hours to our hotel.
Te Waonui Forest Retreat was amazing and the surrounding forest looked like it was from an alien planet! \240Amazing!

Dinner was better than the previous hotel. \240I had a ribeye that was 1/2 raw so H finished it off.

Franz Josef Glacier

Arrived after almost a 2 hour drive to the Wilderness Lodge at Lake Moeraki…sister lodge to the Wilderness Lodge at Arthur’s Pass that we stayed in our first 2 nights.

We had a great dinner and then went out for a walk to watch the glowworms! \240

They were amazing! \240A little nocturnal insect the glowed at night and drops down at night a little bit of string and entices other bugs to grab it as they are attracted to the light of the worm and get tangled then sucked up and the glow worm eats him! \240This country is its own little world and is amazing!
Kayaked across Lake Moeraki and had a quick campfire then went on an amazing hike through the rain forest.

Jerry, hotels owner, tour guide, and amazing wealth of information when it comes to NZ and its rich history of everything you want to know about.

A 2,000 year old tree!

Sun was trying to poke out but it never rained!
Came back and had a nice salad for lunch then off on another 3 mile hike to Monro Beach and the Tasman Sea again.

Penguins come to lay their eggs here, but they migrated back to the Antarctica just last week…wish we could have seen the little suckers!

These hikes have been literally out of this world and remind me of Avatar movie! \240Come to find out, the creators of Avator met with Jerry and he showed them all over and the movie was made with the New Zealand forest as an influence!
Back to the hotel, showered, did laundry, and skipped the walk to see the giant eels. \240My legs needed a serious break.
Was supposed to have a lazy late morning and a knock on the door said we were moving out earlier! \240A couple of weeks earlier, a bad rain caused major landslides (another Backroads group had to get helicoptered out) and we needed to get up and out since it started raining and there was concern for another landslide. \240So, we have about a 3 hour drive in rain for now…really the first of this entire trip! \240So instead of biking, we will be hiking a 4 mile trail with no idea of the elevation. \240Hummm… if it’s still raining, it might be a pass for me!
Had a nice lunch at a restaurant on the way.
I walked the trail…beautiful around a lake. \240So much diversity…look one time and it looks like Alaska. \240Look 10 minutes later, and it looks like Hawaii! \240It was great weather but windy again…got pretty strong and had a hard time keeping my balance.

About 20 minutes shuttle ride to our hotel Edgewater in Wanaka. \240NICE! \240Even had our own W/D in the suite!

Wānaka is a nice touristy town with lots of shops and restaurants. \240Came into town and found a nice steak house for an amazing steak dinner!

H had steak, venison and lamb

My steak on the stone

H’s dessert…a Toblerone martini!

And my wonderful brownie!

Would love to come back!
Then went to an outside bar watching all the people in town. \240

Never saw any of our colleagues…not sure where everybody went! \240Then time for a taxi ride home!
Up at7:30 for breakfast then decision time…option A to bike ride 30 miles on highway with traffic on very hilly roads or option B a shuttle into town to look around and shop… I chose option B! \240Got a cute beanie made 50% merino wool, 40% possum and 10% silk! \240Very soft and kiwis on it! \240Mailed a postcard! \240Shared a beer then back to hotel for a nap. \240Woke up and had our boxed sandwich lunch that was very good then went for a walk to the Wānaka Lake tree

Not sure why it was so special?!!

Then for a short ride by ourselves when it started to rain…back home again and went to check out the broken sauna and jacuzzis!

3 jacuzzis! \240Nice therapy for my leg then back home to get ready for dinner in town at some fancy French restaurant.
Had a fabulous dinner…best from Backroads!

Rice cracker with steam beech nut

Lamb oh so tender with blueberries, fried cauliflower and potato chips! \240Not sure what cream sauce was, but it all mixed wonderfully!

H had crème brûlée and I had sorbet and ice cream!
All nicely done…oops, and French onion soup to start!
Woke up in the middle of the night and H got me to look out on the balcony at the stars…OMG….amazing! \240Even saw satellites trekking across the sky.

Southern cross

A galaxy
Well, Mitford sound was a bust…too windy! \24070% are cancelled tours due to wind. \240I was worried about cold and rain and it was the wind that we fought the entire trip. \240Time to pivot again….
Walked into Wanaka and strolled around town a little and got my lamb ornament/tschotcke then checked out the grocery store.

Met a young couple from the UK that has been traveling for over 12 months!

Shared their story of white water rafting on the Northern Island and of her flipping out! \240OMG!!! \240First of all, it’s freezing water! The guide yanked her back in the boat…we saw the picture ! \240She was caught in action doing a headfirst dive into the water! \240One of those pictures definitely worth buying! \240Oh well, if it’s my time to go, so be it!
After an hour and 15 minutes drive, we finally arrive at Millbrook Resort in Queenstown. \240This resort is home to the New Zealand Open (golf).

It’s got 2 golf courses and incredible property! \240We had 2 ducks greet us!

Softhearted H gave them a package of cheese and crackers!

No ducks this morning to send us off, but I left a pack of crackers on the lawn for them. \240Breakfast this morning then time to head out on the vans for our jet boat and rafting adventure and say goodbye to a few who were moving on.
Weather was beautiful! Got fitted into our full body thick wetsuits, booties, helmet, long sleeved jackets and life jackets and we were off! \240 Jet boat was ok… but not quite the thrill adventure we were hoping for. \240Unfortunately, we felt the same way about the rafting! \240Only 3 areas with churning water and only 1 was exciting! \240Had another lunch of pizza and salad and in 2 taxis and we were off again to Queenstown airport. \240Time for a new leg of our trip! \240Australia, here we come again!
Landed in Brisbane about 6:30pm with a 3-hour gain. \240Thank goodness…I needed that sleep! \240Got an Uber to the house and met Madii for a short time, had a frozen meal from Lisa, then off to bed! \240Leg woke me up hurting the worst since this whole trip. \240
Slept in a little then we took off for breakfast. Met Abby! \240Wish I could have played with her a little! \240Definitely a sweet girl! \240

Had troubles with getting the car to the restaurant, but thankfully nothing anybody will ever know about!
Had another rough relationship day…just don’t know how much more. \240Why is it men always say I’m so sweet and then treat me like shit? \240Does he really want to be married to me, because it sure doesn’t feel like it. \240He turns the charm on for everyone else and won’t hardly talk with me.
The city was nice…a Greenville grown up! \240Of course, we didn’t get to see it all, but what we saw was beautiful. \240Nice catamarans used for public transportation that allowed a great view of the city.

Pretty lights for Christmas too.

Saw a bunch of kids put on their dance recital outside for the city crowd. \240

They did a great job and it was time to head home! \240This driving has to get better or I won’t be co-piloting the trip. \240My nerves can’t take it.
Left about 8:00 this morning. \240Saw Madii and Abby as we were leaving. \240Got on the highway with no problems!
Made it to Byron Bay in about 2 hours. \240Walked around a little and got H’s new Aussie hat and had the best lunch! \240Walked out to the lighthouse and saw this guy along the way…

Then on the road for 4 more hours to Port Macquarie. \240Had dinner at a Turkish restaurant that was quite good then onto our airbnb for the next 2 nights!
Rainy this morning. \240Went for a walk around the lighthouse

and along the coastal walk way. \240Also met Cookie , a Groodle…Australian mix of golden retriever and poodle! \240

Had lunch in town and bought our Santa hats and took some Christmas pics.

Walked along the graffiti rocks. \240

Legs were hurting and couldn’t walk anymore so sat on a bench while H got the car. \240Made it to the Koala hospital!

\240So cute but sad…
Home then for a nap and up to town for dinner. \240Came back home and did a Yellowstone bonanza!
Left the Airbnb

and went for a hike in the rainforest of Sea Acres \240National Park

Cicadas in season and LOUD!

All kinds of weird critters!
Had a great time and ran back to town for lunch at Off the Hook for awesome fish and chips. \240What a great meal! \240H learned how to open their tomato sauce packets the hard way! \240Another ice cream for the road and we were off to Pokolbin for our wine tour in Hunter Valley.
Kangaroo fences on the highway to try to keep them off. \240Fencing is bowed inward at the top.
Saw my first Roos! \240Saw them right before we got to our hotel.

Mama and Joey!
Went to the local botanical gardens for Christmas lights. \240Had fun and got too see Santa!

Hunters Valley-Got up for our full day wine trip…what a blast! 2 other groups of 3 and 4 ladies joined us. \240No breakfast! \240Nothing to eat until after the 2nd wine tasting! \240We got picked up at 9:45 and started drinking by 10! We were told that if we drank everything we were served, we would have drank 2.5 bottles of wine! \240I threw out a lot! \240But still had a buzz by the second stop! \240My favorite winery was our first stop…First Creek. \240They won the award for best Chardonnay in Australia for 2024. \240I’m finding my taste is shifting towards white wine. \240Love how the taste changes with cheese and chocolates!

After 4 or 5 stops (I can’t remember!) we made it home and crawled into bed about 5 and took a nap! \240Got up and ate our breakfast meant for tomorrow for dinner and back to sleep! \240Another fun day!
162,000 criminals shipped to Australia
620 National parks…land locked up for the NPS is the size of Germany.
Headed out about 8:15 to Sydney to go on the hunt for wild wombats and kangaroos! \240But first had to feed another duck! \240They love their peanut butter crackers!

Another little friend knocking on the glass door!
First stop of our 11 hour tour…Sublime Point

Overlooking the 10th largest city in Australia…Wollongong…280,000

Stopped for a quick pie eating stop…I had chicken and vegetables an H had Chunky Beef! \240Both yummy!

Then another quick stop at The Big Potato! \240Actual size of one found here…well, not sure if I believe everything the tour guide says!

On to a couple of stops at waterfalls…

We saw the fat little potatoes!

150 feet burrows 20 feet down. \240Wombats are amazing diggers!
Run 27mph born jelly bean small after 28 days in gestation and stay in pouch for 12 months. \240Live up to 15 years in the wild. \240Dingos are their predators. \240Herbivores and change mates yearly. \240Have only 1 at a time and once a year since they stay in the pouch.
Then we saw our Roos and joeys up close!

Stopped for a little stargazing on the way home but the moon was out and couldn’t compare to what we saw in New Zealand! \240Finally made it to bed about midnight.
Hit the road about 9am to head out of Sydney and Pambula Beach…6 hour drive, here we come!
Went thro a helluva long tunnel.

Had KFC for lunch…simply the same to me, but nice to have a taste from home.

Saw a dead roo on the side of the road…just like deer at home. \240Update: \240saw about 25 within about a 10 mile stretch…even saw in the middle of the road what looked like a mom and a baby…so very sad.
I drove for about 2 hours and through the Snowy Mountains. \240Thanks Harvey for saving the best part for me! \240Fog was so heavy at one part couldn’t see the front of the car.

Made it to our Airbnb in Pambula Beach. \240Beautiful place!

Pulled into the neighborhood and look what greeted us! \240

About a dozen not counting those in a pouch! \240And we paid for the tour to go see them in the wild! \240Oh well, it was still a great tour!
Headed out for a great dinner!

And of course, dessert!
And we’re off to the Killer whale museum in Eden…about a 20 minute ride. \240But stopped for breakfast at a cute cafe first.

Loved the quaint little museum and learned about “Old Tom” who helped the whalers every year “wrangle” in the whales.

Would love to come back for whale season!
Then time to move on to Broadwater Oysters for our shucking school with Sue, one of the founders.

We ate our share! \240
Very salty and yummy! \240Loved the sauces and toppings they served them with. \240Had a lot of fun and learned so much about growing oysters and rotating them. \240Super fun day!
Back to our Airbnb to see our roo friends and tons of cockatoos!

I think he was wanting to talk to me!

Watched “Fracture” on Netflix on the phone with Anthony Hopkins. \240Loved it, not sure why it wasn’t popular. \240Then to bed for an early rise again!
Early rise, didn’t sleep well again last night thanks to these noisy little critters! \240I won’t miss them!

They love their bath and singing like a bell…thus, the name bellbirds!

Beautiful plants all around!
Almost 7 hours driving. \240I was ready to get out of the car. \240Is flying to Sydney an option?! \240We stopped for gas and lunch at the gas store and each got a famous Australian pie to fill our tummies and an incredible bag of cherries!
Made it to our home exchange on Phillips Island for the next 3 nights. \240It’s adequate, but tough to give a 5 star rating. \240It’s definitely an Airbnb. \240Definitely the worst shower!
We met Bob, our host this morning as we were leaving and gave us a recommendation to eat.
Went to The Store for a great breakfast! \240Then to the Tourist information office to get lots of info! \240Walked around Churchill island. \240The area was having a record heat day of 97! \240It was hot but we saw lots of critters and heard lots of birds! \240

Cute little bunnies, but heard they are trying to eradicate all of them! \240They were brought here by man and evidently they are considered the enemy!

Goose…1 of millions here!

Hot, but beautiful!

Some cool driftwood.

Some kind of fluff on the trees in spots. \240We think it’s growing on them.
Went back and had a drink to cool off!

Then we headed to the Koala Conservatory…awww…I want to take them all home!!

If I can’t see you, then you can’t see me!

On the hunt!

So exhausted!!

Comfy right here…

Just hanging out!

And then the stars of the island!

Previous night’s numbers

Do they really wear sweaters?!

The shearwater bird

The bandicoot

The Little Penguin!

And we were 1 of 10 on the Ultimate Tour

Man made boxes to help the lazy penguins not have to build their nest.

And here they come!!

A large raft then turns into a waddle!

Some seem not so sure!
Only Copperhead snakes live on Phillips Island.
We had an incredible time on this tour! \240Harvey stated that it might be the best we’ve ever done! \240The great penguin migration!! \240We were the only people actually in the beach watching and counting the participants in the parade. \240They come out every night to do maintenance on their nests and have their chicks…1-2 and care for them until ready to live on their own, and social hour! \240They live in the water 80% of their lives. \240Then before the sun rises, they go back into the water under the cloak of darkness to hide from the predators.
They have 10 colonies and many “highways” to get there but they always follow the same highway. \240We sat right next to a highway, maybe 20 feet away. \240A couple came back “lost” and were much closer. \240I still didn’t see any harm in scooping one up and taking him home!
Many Shearwater birds that I don’t understand their purpose, but they get along with the penguins and don’t bother the chicks. \240The birds lay their egg (1 a year) and shortly after hatching, the parents leave and migrate to the same place in Alaska. \240When the chick is old enough, he flies to Alaska and directly to his parents! \240No map or GPS! \240God is amazing! \240They migrate about 40,000 miles a year…longest miles monitored for bird flight.
The Bandicoots…look like a big rat, but our guide referred to them as cute! \240I didn’t catch their purpose either but definitely a friend!
At the end, we walked back through the fields where they travelled and many still traveling.
We got back and headed to the car when a critter came out of the bush…ugly sucker! \240Scared the daylights out of us!

Bushy tailed possum!
What an amazing day!
Breakfast at The Store again! \240Then on our way to town, we saw a peacock laying by the road. \240Harvey told me to make my peacock call (just joking!). \240So I did and he answered right back! \240We had a lovely conversation!! \240And seemed totally stressed squeaking as we were leaving!

Then we went to the motocross track and I had to cut loose and burn some rubber! \240We had fun!

Woowho!!

Came home and napped
Got up and went to Nobbies Center…they were closed but we still walked around in the freezing cold and wind and looked at all of the wildlife.

Seagulls everywhere!

Goose!

The Crested Tern and Pacific gulls.

Baby chicks time! \240The crested Tern!

Dinner time!

Baby small penguin in his burrow waiting for mom to come home!

Thank goodness for my kiwi hat!

Biggest damn flower I’ve ever seen!!
Next up, dinner and maybe a drink! \240Had the best damn Greek dinner ever!

Saw these guys on the way home!

And time for the final episode of Yellowstone then bed!
Left at 7:30 for our next Home Exchange in Melbourne but first a stop at Dangdenong Ranges and a ride on the iconic Puffing Billy railway! \240An old steam engine and ride through the forest and back!

Our starting station

All aboard!!

Maybe a little snuggle in there

My man
And we arrived at our destination at Lakeside!

Had a grazing box waiting for us for an afternoon snack.

Lemon meringue looked better than it tasted

Another beautiful day!

Our driver! \240All volunteers!

Time to go home…
Next stop, Melbourne! \240We arrived and got the car parked, no make that squeezed into its parking spot! \240We agreed we weren’t using the car again until we were leaving Melbourne! \240There wasn’t 1/2” on either side as we pulled it into the garage or into its spot! \240I’ve no clue how we will get it out of this building!
The flat is precious! \240Exactly what I need!

Even a McDonalds across the street!

We even had beautiful live flowers…

We unloaded and headed out for a dinner. \240Found Ladro’s…a fabulous Italian restaurant!

H had the best lasagna I’ve ever had! \240I had chicken saltimbucco that was fabulous!

So of course we each had to have a dessert!
Fun day! \240Great weather again!
Lazy start and we took 2 buses to get to the Botanical Gardens…absolutely amazing and didn’t even see 1/10th of it!

Lorikeets!

Such unusual plants and flowers!

Then we headed o
Headed out about 9:45 to stop by McDonald’s for a quick bite before our chocolate tour!

Including us, 7 in our group. \240The other 5 were ladies on a 4 day cruise from Adelaide. \240We stopped at 5 different places but in our opinion, only 2 were really chocolate shops!! \240What the heck?!!

4 chocolate bars is what the shop was sharing! \240But all made in Australia.

A true chocolate shop!

Yummy apricot!

Chinese restaurant serving koala buns filled with chocolate. \240Didn’t qualify in my book!
Then our tour guide took us to a bookstore and I picked up A Town Like Alice, a true story/Australian classic that I’m looking forward to reading! \240I also got a Christmas book 11/22/63 by Stephen King that I’m looking forward to reading!!

Last shop…called Scoopy and served bensyu…shaved ice cream and add your own condensed milk, strawberries and bubbles. \240It was great and whether or not it should be on the tour, it was great!
We learned in the 1800’s, women would come to the corner of town and act like they were looking around for their friends when in reality they were showing off their hats and dresses! \240Then we walked around the city a bit and explored Melbourne…

An exquisite Christmas shop

Cute themes

My favorite!
Cool downtown!

Found the Queen Victoria’s Market and H found 2 more sexy hats!! \240And we picked up some cherries and blueberries and I got some koala socks. \240Then stopped for a real bite to eat! \240Some serious food…

And Harvey’s came with a brownie!
Enjoyed watching the coming and goings of all the customers in the chocolate store Haigh’s… at least 1 in 10 going by went in and at least 50% came out with at least 1 bag and they all came out eating a sample…except H!

Lazy morning and headed into town for the Queen Victoria’s market,

walked around a little then split a pulled pork sandwich and fries for lunch! \240One of the best I’ve ever had!

Saw some more buildings,

And ran into McDonald’s just to see the cost of a Big Mac!

We saw some local art and a cute poochie salon.

We then caught the City Centre tram No. 35 around the city with a little audio, although it was too crowded and couldn’t hear well! \240It was a lazy day, but my leg was hurting and couldn’t do too much with it. \240I’m glad Backroads trip was towards the end…I would have hated to be hurting this whole trip. \240We came home and rested.
Then headed back out to Lincoln pub to catch a pulse of the town and have dinner.

Amazing chicken schnitzel for me and another steak pie for Harvey.
Funny thought by some student on the side of a building across the street.
Then back home again. \240We really lucked out on this HE and the location!

I’ve totally enjoyed the skyline.

Colored lights moved up and changed colors
Then back home. \240Weather was a little cooler and actually appreciated!
Early start, our Sports complex tour was cancelled on us the other day and rescheduled for free! \240$155 savings for us! \240So although my legs gave me a fit last night, I wanted to go on this trip! \240Weather was absolutely fantastic and had a great time with Ben, the guide and his stories! \240Melbourne really is a sports center…from Grand Prix to Australian Tennis Open, Cricket and AFL…all within a few blocks!

Rowers on the Yarra River

Some indigenous artwork on the walk to the tennis arenas

Sooo cool to see these tennis courts and hear the back stories of some of the players through the years. \240$19 to see some of the games. \240Australia believes in it being available for all, not just the wealthy.

$25-30 buys you an hour of court rental!

Beautiful courts/arena used for concerts and performing arts.

I don’t play tennis, but got chills here!

Then it was off to the MCG and time to hear all about the AFL and Cricket.

Ben telling us about the early time Australian football.

Melbourne skyline and trains into the sports area for performances, concerts, the open, cricket and AFL games. \240Most utilized stadium in the world!
Taylor Swift came about 13 years ago to a crowd of 33,000. \240A few years later, audience of 50,000. \240Eras tour in 2024-sold out to crowd of 100,000 in MCG.

The infamous MCG! \240Land acquired and built in 1834. \240Field has been the same, just rebuilt the stands 4 times. \240Holds 100,000 now!

No parking garages…huge train station right by.

Both Cricket and AFL games are played here. \240Cricket fields are HUGE! \240

Cricket playing area must be impeccable!

The Blazer Bar.

Each club has their own specific blazer for Cricket clubs.

Snobby member…when a child is born, you put their name on the wait list.

John, our tour guide! \240Absolutely great! \240Had a few senior moments, but loved his efforts.

Playing field for the bowlers…7 strips for 7 games. \240I’m learning!

Good listener!

Famous cricketers!

Special seating

Tapestry of the history of the MCG.

Clock from opening day….reminds me of the clock dad hung up on one of the churches.

Pretty ground cover

Nice anniversary lunch! \240Happy first and cheers to many more!

Another one of the many trees I have fallen in love with!

Gardens on the way back home.

A stop for another drink to toast our special day!
Got a slow start (getting to be the norm!) and headed to the Melbourne Museum. \240Got there about 11 and got IMAX tickets for the 4:30 showing of…

So we grabbed lunch at the cafe then visited the museum until time for the movie

LOVED the movie! \240Ran back to the museum side to get our bag out of the locker and we were the only ones in the building! \240Security finally caught up with us and showed us out.

Then we walked to Panda Hot Pot. \240

Food was good but service felt rushed and stressed! And the “very mild” soup was hot as shit!! \240But the ice cream was great!!

Cleaned everything up and got on the road about 1:00. \240It took about 20 minutes to get out of the garage! \240It was soo tight and narrow paths…but we made it unscathed! \240Next destination, 3 and 1/2 hours to Baranduda for the next 2 nights at an Airbnb. \240Teresa was kind enough to book us Christmas dinner tomorrow.
On the road we stopped at Hungry Jacks. I think I liked it better than Burger King!
We arrived about 5:30 and met our hosts, Theresa and Peter. \240Very nice and love our place! \240I wish we could stay longer at these places I love! \240Sweet little cocker/poodle Benji…2years old. \240I could take him home!

Ran into town and ran into Kmart to get the last 2 Christmas cards for each other (slim pickings!). We then went to Greenstreat and got a salad (finally) for dinner! \240It was great!
And to bed! \240Woke up hot! \240It will be nice when we get home and control the A/C!

Merry Christmas! \240Harvey got his new Aussie hats and I got Stephen Kings book 11/22/63…740 pages! \240I can’t wait to get into it! \240No churches holding service so watched the next best thing…the Pope on TV!
Went for a hike on

Enjoyed a beautiful 2+ mile walk with tons of birds and turtles. \240No koalas or pythons spotted! \240My leg has been feeling pretty good the last couple of days!
Came home and took a short nap then got ready for Christmas dinner at Table 451. \240Sounds fancy schmancy! \240

His LI Tea and my wine!

Salt and pepper squid! \240GREAT! \240My favorite! \240Maybe you don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

Surf and turf for H and I had chicken schnitzel!
Mine was great! \240Harveys steak was only 1/2 eaten and the rest went home to Benji for a Christmas snack!

And of course dessert to finish it off!
Watched an episode of Virgin River! \240And to bed…woke up to some kind of noise in the room. \240Originally sounded like rain but I came to the conclusion it was a big mouse with sneakers on! 🐭❤️

On the road 5.5 hours to Sydney…our trip is quickly coming to an end. \240On the drive to Sydney, we went through long stretches with no gas. \240Finally stopped and had 20 minutes to wait for gas! \240Everyone on their way home and they know the roads have no gas stations!
Then I suddenly realized that I booked Sydney HE for a day later and we didn’t have a bed for the night…boy did we hit the jackpot with a Airbnb downtown! \240What an incredible view of the harbor! \240

And even a better view later of the bats as they came out!

We walked around our area for a bite to eat then gelato on our way home.
Virgin River season 6, episode 1! \240Very good!

Home at 9:30 and exhausted again!
Off to another early start to check out the Rocks.
Walked around and had a great tour. \240Afterwards, went to Bondi Beach and had a drink while watching all the locals and tourists enjoy the beautiful day.
Took bus back to town to meet Harrison for dinner.
Tried getting membership for Harvey to gamble in casino. \240Didn’t have passport though so Harrison played the bets for him.
Happy new year. \240Woke up and had a huge fight. \240I never called Shelly a whore.
Headed into town about noon. \240Went and had lunch.

James Squire knows how to brew a \240beer!

Pretty but sweet potato soup was missing something!
Went to the Discovery museum at the Rocks. \240Nice museum. \240Then went to buy sweatshirts for the boat, it was going to be chilly on the water.

Crowd control already starting and people putting their stakes in the ground!
Made it to the wharf about 5:45…had to be there by 6:15 and boat left at 7:15. \240Only complaint for the whole night was we didn’t get on the boat until about 7:00…our legs and backs were killing us! \240But oh what a night we had!

Our program for the evening

Beautiful sunset on the water

All peaceful for another year

Had to wait about 45 minutes to clear coming back into the harbor. \240And 3:45am when we made it home! \240Not bad for fighting a 1,000,000 others for the public transportation and traffic!
AMAZING night and way to finish this equally amazing trip! \240So glad I got to see it from a Birds Eye but too old to

Said goodbye to David and Lin from our HE a day earlier than planned. \240We “paid” 13 nights and stayed for only 4. \240They were a nice Chinese couple and she loved to talk. \240I hope someday they come to see us in Florida! \240It was a little outside Sydney but we love the public transportation. \240Took about an hour to get into Sydney CBD. \240Biggest problem with this stay is that it was HOT! \240No A/C on and no fan in the room! \240Geesh!
9.5 hours to Brisbane…on the road about 10:30. \240Drive is about 9.5 hours long. \240We will see how far we get.
H went and bought a new tire for Lisa’s car for $300. \240Decision point…never using an exchange on cars again! \240Too nerve wracking! \240I stayed home and sorted through 20lbs of pamphlets! \240Then we took public transportation into town to a swanky restaurant in a bad part of town (cops all over and a substation on the next block)! \240Restaurant was closed for the holidays! \240So walked around the block and found Tatsu in Chinatown! \240Had a great dinner of chicken teriyaki and Harvey had a salmon sushi roll. \240Then the bus home and to bed! \240Only 4 more nights and we still have 3 bottles of wine!
Ran to shipping/packaging company for a box to ship our stuff home then took a bus into town to check out Brisbane!

Took the public transportation for the last round trip \240(RT for $1.00!) into Brisbane to ride the catamaran ferry (included in the $1.00!) around the river since they didn’t have a hop on/off bus. \240Harvey wanted a new book to read on our 14 hour flight tomorrow so first up was a bookstore, then walked our feet off looking for new flip flops…Jarvey’s was finally wearing thin and he was desperately in need of a new pair, but had to have cloth (I’ve never seen them before, but who am I?!) Little girl scolded us for crossing the street on red!

Pretty church

Queensland Children’s Hopital

Serbian Orthodox Church (thinking of Jelena and Conner and their wedding coming up soon!)

Nice pub for a quick last ginger beer…James Squire…the best!

Magpies are notoriously known for not playing nicely with others during baby chick season and get their own sign posted!

Yep, time for a new pair!

Loved the cat ferries!

Our last full day and delicious meal. \240But looking forward to seeing my hairdresser!!

Yes, it’s been an incredible trip of a lifetime!

This pizza was one of my favs ever!

Harvey’s chicken was extra moist

Nice view while sipping a drink in a beanbag chair! \240And what a perfect night!

Cleaned, did laundry and read while H took car to get gassed and cleaned and to the post office to mail our last box.
Abbey and Sookie will be missed.

Had a meltdown…planning on leaving after towels were done and once again, H was going to control when that happened. \240This just isn’t healthy for either of us.
Flights home from Brisbane and 4 hour layover in LAX (no airport lounges…really?!!) \240Then our last leg home of 5 hours into MCO with 0 bag checks or extra fees! \240Bed will be good tonight!
