We just finished up our 5+ week stay in Flagstaff (March 23 to April 30). Our intent was to spend two weeks in Flagstaff and spend some time with my parents exploring the area including the Grand Canyon. Thanks to COVID-19 we didn’t get a visit from my parents and we decided to take extra precautions and stay in one place longer so our 2 week VRBO home became 5 weeks. All in all, we’re glad we did this!

We found the only Minnesotan and Norwegian in the middle of nowhere Arizona! We stopped for one night at this RV park enroute to Flagstaff.

Lamest playground we’ve encountered - swings and a caterpillar AND a sign containing 13 rules of what’s allowed and what’s not. 🤦🏼‍♀️

The home we rented was just outside the city limits of Flagstaff on 5 acres full of ponderosa pines

Our first week in Flagstaff, it snowed on and off

View from the bedroom window

Video - Big flakes - it was nice to see for a little while but still glad it melted quick!

Our home for five weeks

When the sun rose, it gave the mountains a pinkish hue every morning

So much space to hover board

The kids worked on several metal projects - the guitar was Jackson’s first one to complete

The home had several board games that were new to us

Kids loved this suspend game

With very few places to go, we definitely took the evenings to relax!

Our camelbacks arrived - ready for longer hikes!

The boys still teaching themselves the guitar

A lot of drawing was done during our stay in Flagstaff

And a lot of reading

More reading

And more reading

And some funny faces with buddies back home via messenger for kids

We also took advantage of having a full size oven and did some baking

And played in the snow

Both the truck and RV needed some servicing so we ended up renting a car the first weekend to go to the Grand Canyon

Ready to hike whatever trails we can find at the Grand Canyon

We walked up to the edge of the Canyon and our mouths dropped open

So vast and it goes on forever!

❤️

❤️

Thanks to COVID 19 the trails into the canyon were closed

❤️

❤️

Vast!

We went a little ways into the canyon

Jackson was not a fan of walking close to the edge so he stayed close to the interior wall!

❤️

While Jason contemplates how he’s going to run up the rocks if they start to fall! 😂

Sun and ponderosa pines

The trail is called Fatmans Loop because apparently if you can’t squeeze through this you’re a fatman! 😂

Rocks to climb

This was much more of a walk through the forest which typically turns into pine cone wars between the kids and J!

More petroglyphs

My little hiker

I do believe a wood pecker had a good time here!!

There was a small waterfall on this hike but we found it!

More quarantine activities - finally a space to spread out the legos

Decorating rocks as Easter eggs

After a couple of weeks in the RV shop we parked our home in the yard and made plans to start painting the interior
