After many weeks in Flagstaff and changing our minds about where to go and when, we decided to leave Arizona and head north to Utah. This detour meant we would not be able to visit Nevada and California as planned. Utah had very few cases of COVID and was starting to reopen businesses and parks in May. We stayed in Glendale, UT for five days - central to many parks, hikes and beautiful landscapes.

The change in elevation and scenery was amazing as we drove from Flagstaff to Glendale.

No more snow capped mountain and pine trees!

During our drive, we went by one of the items on my “must see list” Horseshoe Bend! It was a Friday and the park was open but not staffed.

We made the short hike to the river. It was much hotter than we expected!

The Colorado River cuts through the land here making for amazing landscapes like Horseshoe Bend.

❤️

We saw a few boats and campers down below

And of course, more rocks to climb

Monkey see, monkey do!

J wanted to get closer to the edge for a better look of the drop off!

We arrived in Glendale at a very small, clean, quiet RV park. Glendale is about the size of Amboy!

Lots of space to run!

And a nice town park two blocks away

It had been at least two months since the kids were allowed to play at a playground

Signs of spring

A small horse pasture right next to the RV park

J tried feeding her but she wasn’t interested in our carrots!

Picnic and reading on a glorious day

J even made a picnic lunch!

Driving to Kanab

Kanab - known as Little Hollywood because of the numerous western movies made here

We drove over to Zion NP on afternoon. The road was open for folks to drive through but you weren’t supposed to stop and explore.

We stopped anyway!

Way too amazing to not stop and explore for a little while.

Jackson climbing up the side of this wall of sandstone

Jackson took off running to go explore

We were completely surrounded by rock walls

The pictures do not capture how enormous the rock wall formations are

Crab crawling down

Back at the little RV park in Glendale - exploring the area and found a creek close by

Also found an overlook of alfalfa fields - a major crop in this area

Over the weekend, we went on a hike called Squaw Trail in Kanab

View of what we’re about to climb

Always the leader!

Kind of a difficult hike for Grace but she did great

Getting close to the top!

Video - he had to see if he could throw a rock from the top and get it to land all the way below

Cool rock!

Some warmer days and no pool - means water fun with buckets

Jackson was able to get Grace good!

Grace had to have Jackson lay down to pour it on him! Ha!

We went on an ATV tour of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

Following our guide, Gordon, through the dunes

Pink sand dunes for miles!

Kids were very excited!

Video

Got a little dusty so goggles were needed

We stopped on the dunes to sled and sand board

They think we need to buy one!

The second part of our tour was a short hike through peekaboo slot canyon

This was so amazing

More climbing outside of the slot canyon - so glad we did this ATV tour
