Pune

A 50th birthday is no normal day. This 18th December my mother turned 50 and we had to make it a special one. We decided to go on a roadtrip. Initially we thought of Gujrat and Karnataka as options but finally landed on Madhya Pradesh.

We started from Pune around 6 am towards Indore. This day was about 600 kms on wheels, songs and, a dispute because we took a wrong turn!

Breakfast halt

We reached Indore around 6.45 pm and booked a stay on reaching there.

Freshened up. And headed towards the Night food market of Sarafa bazaar. It was crowded even at 10pm! But the food was too good. Ended up having almost 10 different dishes!

Indore

We got up to the hustle-bustle of Gangwal bus stop chowk. Had Indori poha and chai for breakfast and headed to city tour of Indore.

We went to Rajwada palace and museum. Read about the history of Ahilyabai holkar and her projects nation-wide. After this we went to Khajrana Ganesh temple, in my opinion this can be skipped if you have time constraints.

We had a nice lunch and then headed towards Lalbaug Palace. Personal favorite tourist place from Indore! The French-British architecture with leisure areas and dining halls, what beauty! The Italian marble pillars and the Greek paitings are just excellent .

After the Lalbaug palace, we went back to hotel and took a quick nap to retrieve our energy for another food tour in the evening. We took the battery tuk-tuk to Chhappan dukaan.

Chappan dukan is a food street with such a lively vibe! Indore literally proves itself as स्वाद की राजधानी! Here are some very tasty dishes that I tried there.

Tourist behaviour 100

Also, we went to cloth market. You will get a huge variety of clothes, ethnic wear to be specific. Bargaining is the key so take your bargains-perts with you!!

This day was a tiring one as well. So got to go and sleep!

Ujjain

We started for महादेव की नगरी- उज्जैन today morning. We drove ourselves to Ujjain which is 56 kms from Indore.

Today again, we booked a local tuk-tk rickshaw to go temple hopping.

Starting with Kalbhairav temple, where we had to queue up for 1 hour. To our surprise there is tradition of offering alcohol in this temple.

After this we went to two more temples in the surrounding.

After having Dal Bafle for lunch we headed towards the Mahakal temple around 4.30 pm. The temple has been recently renovated and they have done a great job at it!

The chants of Har Har Mahadev set vibe of the temple!

Not only the temple but the whole surrounding has been decorated with huge sculptures from Hindu mythology.

We also wanted to attend the enchanting Kshipra aarti by the Ram ghat. The drums and the beats are so amazing that one has to stand there and enjoy it!

Later after this aarti we went to Harsiddhi maiyya temple where again we got to witness the terrific environment. Do not miss this arti.

Such a spiritual day out!

What a day!

Shri Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga

We started from Ujjain for Omkareshwar. The current road conditions are not that good so keep a buffer time between travels.

For Omkareshwar temple you can use the ferry boat transport to reach the temple situated in the island.

On the other side of river, Mamleshwar jyotirlinga is situated.

Around sunset we started for Maheshwar. We took a night halt there as it was already late. There is a fort and Narmada ghat built by Ahilyadevi Holkar here.

But due to time limits and late hours we were not able to visit those. But this means I get to visit here again!

So this was the end of the trip as next day we started on the way back to Pune!
