On 26 December DEN to MEX to GDL

Via AeroMexico

Mexico City Airport waiting for Flight to Guadalajara.

Lights of Mexico City seemed to go on and on and on....

3
Guadalajara

Guadalajara Airport

Hotel near airport in Guadalajara.

4
Ajijic

AJIJIC MALECON

(Pronounced ah-hee-heek)

There were a lot more people along the Malecon than these pictures show.

Sign for meetings in Spanish.

Meeting here from 10am to 11am.

4.7 kilometers +

Two VERY BIG cows resting along trail.

I realized later that their job might be to “mark” the trails with what they leave behind 😎.

These stones splashed with white paint marked the trail also.

Wildlife.

Where I finished the trail.

I don’t think this was a 14er but I would call it a “when can I go downer?”

Looking back up the street where I finished the trail.

Miscellaneous photos along streets while walking.

The type of letters used to spell MIN WAH are how I learned to write HAIKU in 4th or 5th grade Art Class. \240I really enjoyed that looking back. Printing in that font and drawing Chinese type photos.

This tile mosaic by a home’s door is almost exactly the scene in the Straw Marquetry painting I bought at Widow of Windsor Antiques French Flea Market in Springfield.

This is a photo of it below:

I hope to find actual Straw Marquetry Artists in Telaquepaque and Tonala near Guadalajara when I am there in a couple of days.

31 December. Did not find any Straw Marquetry artists there but the Tour Guide said it looked like church in Taxco, Mexico.

“Cigerett Culos” = Cigarette butts 😎

Hard to see but looked like very good fresh fruit in yellow building!

That is a mannequin behind the kids.

MexyCo.

Cobblestone streets everywhere!

MALECON again. Windy tonight and fairly large waves. Many people enjoying.

Baked Mahi Mahi with Italian Bread, Salad, Garlic Potatoes for dinner, 140 pesos, about $7.

5
Chapala

Decided to ride the bus today and visit Chapala (East of Ajijic) and Jacotapec (West of Ajijic).

Chapala was about 15 minute ride for $9 which means 9 pesos=30cents each way.

Jacotapec was about 25 minutes and cost $15 =15pesos=75 cents each way.

It was partly cloudy and about 70 degrees today.

Never ending stream of people posing for photos with the sign.

Guys walk around with buckets and clean cars for anyone interested. Don’t know the cost.

Boats can drive right through the floating “seaweed” growth.

When the Lake level is higher they have an actual sand beach.

6
Guadalajara

Today, traveling by bus from Ajijic to Guadalajara Centro. Price for Servicio Plus is $60=60pesos=$3 🤓 Hope to be on 11:30am bus.

Bus ride was about 1hr 15 minutes. Got a very nice taxi driver and about 20 minutes to hotel in GDL. 100pesos=$5. More than the bus 😎.

First photos of GDL.

Signed up for a group tour tomorrow to Guadalajara Centro historic area, Tonala, markets and artisans and museums, and Tlaquepaque, more museums and artists, etc.

3 Tacitos with extra carne and cabbage and onions plus Agua Fresca (tasted like cranberry) for 80 pesos=$4.

Guadalajara Centro Historico

I took Uber for first time to start the New Year.

I was there late morning and took most of photos then. As the day went on there were more and more and more people in the plazas.

I have no idea right now what the names of all the buildings and churches are.

Not quite sure what “level” is in this photo??

Part of the Fesco painting up stairway.

Part of the Fresco, can see swastikas (sp?), not sure what that’s all about?

Really like the ceiling with all the pebbles/cobbles placed in mortar.

I took this photo because the guy on the other side looked like me?

This guy looked relaxed, not like the guy on the right in the picture below.

Guy on the right is not happy??

Some newsstand covers of some pretty gruesome news.

Store window, I was pretty upset that they were closed.

Saw this Christmas Grinch getting dressed on side street. Later in the day walking around Plazas trying to make/get money??

7
Manzanillo

Rained all night and just now stopping around 8am.

Taking bus from Guadalajara to Manzanillo.

A little hectic getting to the right bus station before sunrise in the morning but made it with two nice Uber drivers.

Very interesting going through the countryside and mountains. Photos from bus aren’t great but I tried.

Closest I have ever been to “the end of the rainbow” 🌈

Agave field, not good detail because of bus moving.

Stopped at Colima Bus Station on the way.

Slow boat to China?

Probably too many sunset photos but it was amazing!!! Don’t know if this is normal but I am very grateful to see it!

No filters or anything, this is what the camera saw!

Beach this morning at Hotel Albatros

Taking taxi to Santiago for a meeting and look around and Playa Santiago, Santiago Beach.

Main Jardín in Santiago, a small plaza.

Meeting in the Market Area with fruits and vegetables everywhere. The Triangle with AA is an International symbol and helps locate meeting places.

Fixer Upper, the Santiago Beach is just around the curve.

Sometimes the disparity in living conditions can show up at anytime.

This looks like someone’s dream little beach cabana? The floor is unlevel, intentional I don’t know??

Access to beach area from roadway.

This area is famous for Marlin fishing. There is a marlin statue in the background.

Landscaping for sale.

Typical beach access from roadway.

Playa Santiago welcome and warnings about waves.

Runaway beach ball.

Didn’t see any big letters spelling out MANZANILLO or SANTIAGO?? Guess they didn’t get the memo?

Bus today from Manzanillo to Puerto Vallarta! 5hrs 20min by bus, but should be interesting.

When you check into a hotel they take you to the room and give you remotes for TV and Air Conditioner, when you check out need to return the remotes!!

Last look at Playa Azul in Manzanillo.

Last night’s sunset.

Early morning.

8
Puerto Vallarta

Five hour bus ride through winding roads, mountains, hills, banana trees, palm trees, papaya trees, jungle, farms, large boulders and a small town here and there with speed bumps.

Manzanillo bus station

You get a drink and a snack bag.

Mi boleto.

Got a text from Julie, Elliot got 2nd place in a contest at her school.

Might need sunglasses to sleep tonight?

Little terrace off room.

This River kind of splits the town and ends at Pacific Ocean.

This is Anonymous, don’t look.

This guy was upset that I took a photo and did not give a tip, I didn’t have any small Mexican peso bills or coins at the time :(

Guess I will try to catch him tonight or tomorrow? Right thing to do if not is to delete the photo:)

9
Sayulita

Kind of a long day. Had to wait for Laundry place to open at 10am.

Took local buses from Puerto Vallarta to Sayulita. That was the plan but I actually went farther by about 45 minutes to El Monteón.

Got a ride back to Sayulita by a nice 21 yr old taxi driver who spoke pretty good English.

New bridge piers.

Part of construction for a new road from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta.

This will be a BIG DEAL, for places like El Mateon, Lo de Marcos, San Pancho, etc.

Heading back to Sayulita in taxi. Amazing how much easier to read signs, etc.

Sayulita, one of Mexico’s 112? Pueblo Magico, Magical Cities!

Very busy beach.

Hard to see SAYULITA, letters are very busy.

Not sure if this “Christmas Tree” had pine needles at one time or not??

History of the first little church in town.

46 pesos, a little over $2.

I should have taken the time on first day to get a Senior card and the price would have been=

Insen=25 pesos a little over $1.

Ticket back to Puerto Vallarta.

Took bus from Puerto Vallarta to Vallarta Botanical Garden and stopped at Mismaloya Beach on the way back!

Took way too many photos but they do not do justice to the pure beauty!!

Sunrise this morning at room.

I planned on just going to Mismaloya because I wasn’t sure about bus to Gardens.

At the bus stop a dedicated bus for Botanic Gardens stopped and I took it to CABOS CORRIENTES area where gardens are located.

View while waiting for bus.

Mismaloya Beach

Road to the beach?? Yes!

This guy is real! There were a lot of them swooping down into the water for fish.

As close to a Selfie as I dare to go!

Mixing concrete for a little project along access path.

Heading home today.

Literally one of the first 4 or 5 passengers at Airport. The Hotel said I should be at airport 2 hours before flight??

First flight out 6:00am to Mexico City.

All checked in and through security at 4am and waiting for the world to wake up.

A few photos from last night in Puerto Vallarta.

There were two of these large trees that they built the restaurant around.

Adios amigos!!
