Sunset Point, Kanyakumari

From Nagercoil it takes about 45 minutes to reach Kanyakumari Sunset point. As you approach the road that turns towards the sea, first you get to see is the board- Road of India ends here.

Every road in this lane takes you to the beach. The fifth left followed by a right that takes you through the curves and bends brings you directly to the Sunset point. By 5pm people start arriving. There is a huge car parking spot facing the sea.

Walking towards the spot, you cross lot of shops who sell boiled peanuts, boiled corn, Bhajji, cut mango and soda. The thing is during sunset time, the air is so forcible that sand flies making you fly too. So holding yourself and tightly gripping your eatable is a must.

There are lot of seaters laid facing the sea. Till sunset time, people are allowed to touch and feel the beach waters. After that there are guards who blow whistles indicating you can’t go near the waters.

Sunset starts from 5.45pm. Initially Sun moves from one point to another, then it hides behind the clouds. Just when you think you won’t see it, rays peep out of the covered clouds. Sun comes out turning itself as an orange ball. That’s when it slowly sinks itself into the blue sea waters.

There is a strip land from where you could see the sunset nearby. This land is a bit rocky, though you get best shots of sunset. During sunset time the air is so strong that you need to really hold yourself from falling or flying.

Kanyakumari also known as Cape Comorin is referred as -The Land Ends spot. Named after Goddess Kanyakumari. She is the sister of Lord Krishna, who wanted to marry Lord Shiva. Since He didn’t show up on the wedding day She took a vow she would never marry. There is a temple devoted to Her near the Kanyakumari beach spot. Belief is the food cooked for wedding turned into stones and those are the stones seen near the beach. Another history is Sage Agasthiar lived here.

Travellers travelling to Kanyakumari, here are some things not to miss-
