DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Hotel Lancaster

We decided to do a short vacation between Christmas and New Years Day. We went to Lancaster, PA. Lancaster is home to many Amish families but it is also home to the Sight and Sound theater (where the Bible comes to life).

When we go to Lancaster we enjoy staying at the Doubletree Resort. we find this hotel to be very kids friendly. Many of the other hotels cater to a more senior crowd where as this caters to the kids. It has a great kids cove where kids can play in a small, simple indoor water park.

They have events for kids on many nights. The first night we there they had a reptile show and after the show they had a hot chocolate bar.

Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The room we stayed in had the basic two queen beds. Free cookie at check in but I went to the front desk the second night were there and they gave me a free cookie . Staff is extremely friendly.

I am a Hilton Honors member so I got to stay on the Hilton Honors floor (5). Only differencethat I could tell from the other floors is that it says Hilton Honors floor.

I will cover breakfast tomorrow morning. As a Hilton Honors member I get free breakfast and so does my wife and son.

Some of the reptiles at the show tonight.

Kids at the hotel had a fun time with the reptiles.

Big lizard.

We were very excited to go to this restaurant. The place has no parking so we had to find parking on the street. Finding parking did not take to long.

The wait for the food to come out after ordering was over 30 minutes. Once the food came out it was not as tasty as we thought it would be. It was extremely salty. Seasoning seemed to be just salt and lots of it. Why do folks take something healthy and make it unhealthy by adding tons of salt. The food was high priced and not worth the price. Presentation was also lacking.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. Ambiance was very nice. Very crowded and reservations recommended after 6:30pm.

The name of the restaurant in the hotel is the “Twenty Four Hundred Restaurant”. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was okay. As a Diamond Hilton Honors member I receive breakfast for 2 at no cost and my son’s \240breakfast was five dollars. There is a menu to order from but that’s not included in the Hilton Honors complimentary breakfast. The buffet style breakfast with omelet station is $13.95 for adults and $8.95 for kids if you are not a HH member. Omelet person was very stingy on the vegetables for the omelet. This was the first time I had \240ever encountered this \240at a hotel. My wife being vegan asked for stir fried veggies and again they were very scarce. \240She usually orders this when we go to restaurants at the hotels for breakfast but this was the first they gave so little it could hardly fill a toddler. Variety was limited on breakfast selection items but no different than your typical hotel breakfast buffet. Only vegan items were fresh fruit and possibly the home fries. Service at the table was great and they were extremely accommodating. Wall Street Journal and USA Today were available at no cost for all customers.

Restaurant requires reservations for dinner on weekends. Breakfast can be very crowded if you go after 8:30 am.

DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Hotel Lancaster

Doubletree Resort is where we stay usually when we go to Lancaster. It is a nice, clean hotel with ample parking and a very friendly staff. You come into the lobby which is actually level 3. You have two floors above and two two floors below. Restaurant and area information is on 3rd floor. They also have some activities in the lobby. Floor 1 has an area called the Palm Courtyard which is where shows, weddings and other similar activities are held. They have several rooms surrounding the court that are used as meeting rooms and movie nights for kids.

The pool and water park are on the 2nd floor. The kiddie water park is not bad at all. It is completely separate from the main pool so if you want to do laps in the main pool you can. The water park has several life guards on duty but the main pool has none. Both pools are open until 10:00 pm. The physical fitness center is located right next to the main pool.

The physical fitness center (floor 2 also)has basic hotel gym equipment. It was not crowded both times we attended. Equipment was in good working condition and it was very clean. They provide a water cooler where you can get water by the cup. Also headsets are available upon request.

Sight & Sound Theatres

Sight and Sound is an amazing place. It truly brings the Bible to life. We have seen Jonah and Samson here before. This time we saw the “The Miracle of Christmas”. Once again we were not disappointed. My son was mesmerized for most of the show. It is great to see him excited and asking questions about what he is seeing. Great to see him interested in something other than a tablet.

The building is an amazing place overall. The plays have actors coming down the aisle. The sets are well designed and the actors are professionals. You just have the actors in the front but they have also sets on both sides. Ángels come down from above. I recommend taking time and coming out to watch a play with your family.

There are concession stands in the lobby. You can purchase DVDs of the plays so you can watch at home. Many souvenirs are also available. Ample parking. The staff is extremely friendly.

Coming spring of 2018 “Jesus”. I can’t wait to take my family to watch it.
