London

London baby!! It is currently 10:20pm and i am sitting on the bus on the way back to Oxford with my feet aching as we walked over 31,000 steps today. This morning we got up bright and early once again as we had to leave at 8:45 to catch the 9:30 bus from Oxford to London from downtown. We got on the bus all half asleep and it was about an hour and thirty minute drive for us to get to Oxford. Once we got off the bus and walked for about 30 minutes to get to our first stop in London, the British museum. One thing that really stood out was when the first homeless person we passed was wearing real Gucci sneakers, this got people talking. We then got to the museum and got a brochure with a list of things we had to go find and take pictures of through this massive and beautiful museum. The coolest was definelty the naturally mummified guy on display. After and hour we headed out as a group to covet garden. We then got 1.5 hours of free time here. It’s was so beautiful with little shops, restaurants and many street performers ranging from juggling knives, magicians and musicians. We decided to head inside cover garden and ate at this little pizzeria. We had the most delicious pizza and a homemade flatbread with hummus and tatziki platter which was delicious. Our waitress was then telling us about this people in London called pick up artists which is basically a bunch of men that they’re job is to go out and pick up girls and get their number for dates. She was telling us how she knows this as he boyfriend is a teacher for this and therefor she knows all the tricks. We saw quite a few pick up artist throughout the day after being aware of it. Our next stop was now walking to the national portrait gallery where we spent some time walking around and looking through the very unique art throughout the gallery. We then walked through Trafalgar Square and saw west minister abbey and somewhat saw Big Ben (it’s sadly under construction). From there we walked as a group to see Buckingham palace. In the square it was so funny as walked past the huge fountain and there were three people swimming in the fountain when all of the sudden a officer showed up and started blowing his whistle at them. The one girl bolted out but the other two men sat hiding in the fountain however they were clearly visible. The officer stood there for like five minutes just blowing his whistle and it was just really funny to watch the entire encounter. So at this point we had basically walked through this entire side of London. It was now around 5 and we were allowed to have dinner on our own tonight and explore until 9 so chiara, Tara, phoebe, Victoria, Morgan, Steven and I decided to go and eat together. I looked up unique places to eat in London and found this super cool place inside the prison called the clink. So you have to go through security check to get in and all the food is grown on prison grounds and your food is made and served by prisoners as a rehabilitation program for them, however the others to my disappointed we’re creeped out by getting served knives by inmates and decided to go to my second option. We ended walking another 30-40 min to a restaurant called Inamo which was a Asian restaurant. While walking there I past a supreme store and instantly thought of Mikael, however we had just missed the closing time by five minutes :( anyways we got to the restaurant and it was super cool! Basically each table has a projector and so you interact using your table. You order from the table, could change the table cloth, play games or even look at the kitchen preparing your food through a camera. I ended up having chicken gyoza, edamame and some sort of spicy chicken and it was definitely the best meal so far. Only bad thing taht happened there was when Tara and I went to the washroom, I guess my lock was broken and some random lady completely walked in on me while I was going pee 😬 that was not so fun. Anyways after eating we decided to go and try to do some shopping so we walked another 30 min to what was voted the best departement store in the world and it legitimately has every nice brand you could ever think of. Sadly everything was closed as it was a Sunday and it all closed super early. We then really didn’t want to walk all the way back to Trafalgar Square which was our meeting point so we decided to take one of those little bike taxis back. After I did some bargaining I got the price down to 5 pounds a person and we were set to go. It was a little scary with all the cars and buses zooming by but it was super fun as we got aux and were blasting music while zooming through the city. I will say we for quite a few looks. The city had cooled down a lot at this point so we decided to get some hot chocolate to warm up at a Italian cafe. We met up with all the Blyth kids and started the 45 minute trek to the bus stop which was very interesting. As we were walking all chatting and feet aching we past a park were there was this very tiny one person tent. We very quickly realized there were two people in this tent that were going at it full force... the tent started flying up and down and every once and a while you’d see a foot or something against the tent. Of course we happened to have to cross the street yet we’re stuck at a stop light for a while infront of this tent. Let’s just say the tent then started to become very loud and audible and honestly everyone just started to burst out laughing when Owen calmly said “wow he clearly must be good at what he’s doing”. I have never laughed so hard everyone was in tears from laughing for the next 20 minutes of the remainder of the walk. We then waited 15 minutes for the bus to arrive and now here I am. Tomorrow we have class once again and I have my first quiz in functions so fingers crossed that goes well. Miss everyone !!
