Up at 5am and we get to see another sunrise as we head to Hana
The Road to Hana (52 miles) took 2.5 hours plus an hour to get to the starting point. We headed straight for the end point, which for us was the Haleakala National Park about 30 miles on the other side of Hana. It is very windy, narrow, and passes over 59 very old bridges, of which 46 are only one lane wide. There are around 620 curves along the road. And then you have to turn around and drive back
Enormous tree on the other side of Hana
Wailua Falls. This was our one stop before HNP
We entered the Haleakala National Park for the second time this week to walk the Pipiwai Trail and to see Oheo Gulch, aka the seven sacred pools. First stop on the Pipiwai Trail is Makahiku Falls
It grows roots to support its branches
Another waterfall on the trail
And then one of the main attractions of the trail: the bamboo forest
Entering the bamboo forest
When the wind blows the forrest sounds like wind chimes
The other main attraction: Waimoko Falls. It’s like entering a horse shoe shaped gully with small waterfalls all around you, but this one is the biggest
Then onto the Oheo Gulch Trail
And it finally ends in the ocean
Coast line on the way back to Hana
Quick lunch at a food truck area in Hana: poke bowls and grilled pineapple
Continuing our drive back from Hana
Entering the Ke’anae Peninsula
And Mike playing with his drone
Another sunrise followed by a perfect sunset
Enjoying a few Lahaina Rum cocktails
