Took Stehouwer’s honkey tonk truck to Wisconsin to buy Joe’s novelty car. Michigan still in shut down order due to coronavirus. Indiana and Wisconsin open for business. Stopped for lunch at the Sunrise Family Restaurant in Chesterton, IL. First time eating in a restaurant in two months. Paid way too much in tolls going through Chicago.

Spent first night in Wisconsin in Sheboygan. Tried to recall 2014 boat trip to Port Washington, Sheboygan, and Manitowoc as well as 2015 boat trip north from Chicago to Kenosha and Milwaukee and 2018 trip to Racine when we had dinner with Sergei and Irena.

Stayed at Blue Harbor resort on the water and had dinner and drinks at Prohibition restaurant. Sat at bar and had good luck splitting a meal. Neighbors were talkative, but we all agreed not to lick each other due to Covid-19. We drank beet juice. BEET JUICE. And limoncello. All not on purpose. Kari apparently does not know how to taste a wine flight, but was redeemed by the 1st level sommelier who served us. Drinks at local dive bars. Almost witnessed accident in traffic circle.

Blue Harbor Resort, Sheboygan, WI

Lots of flooding in the channel (not pictured).

And beet juice.

Joe decided not to buy the vehicle, but debated about it for a while. Headed south toward Kenosha and tried to find something to do along the way.

Found some cheese at Tim and Tom’s just off the expressway. Milwaukee closed due to municipal order. Accidentally drove too far south and ended up back in Illinois at the Volo Auto Museum. Closed. Back north to Jelly Belly factory for a tour and samples. Closed.

We did not get to do this.

Or this.

Spent Sunday night at the Wyndham Garden Harborside in Kenosha. Quick trip to Iron Depot winery for tasting and browsing. Closed. For good, like it wasn’t even there any more. Wandered around for a while before having drinks at Ashling on the Lough at Harbor Park (loud dogs and disgusting bathrooms) and dinner at Kaiser’s Pizza and Pub (pizza was just as good as we remembered and “argued” over who got leftovers).

Apparently not a war memorial.

Best pizza ever! Recommended to us by a stranger on the 2015 boat trip, described as a “German pizza” place.

Not our actual pizza.

Had trouble finding lunch on the way home, but ended up at Schoop’s Hamburgers in Michigan City. Very hot outside. Kari fell asleep in SE Michigan after crossing the border back to lockdown in spite of the rough ride in the truck, the whole way.
