Our week exploring NYC was very different than any of our previous weeks. Our “campground” was essentially a parking lot. We parked at Liberty Harbor in Jersey City on the Hudson River where part of parking lot had been converted to an RV park. It was basic and clean and a great location. I had to travel for work for the first time so I was gone for three days but kids and Jason explored without me! Check it out!

The drive to NYC was tough - heavy traffic and tight spaces

Crossed the George Washington Bridge to get to Jersey City

View of the Statue of Liberty from the RV park

View of the One World Trade Center from our RV park

First night we went our for delicious pizza! I love pizza in NY!

One rainy day the kids and Jason explores the Liberty Science Center located a few miles from the RV park - it was huge and very fun!

The special exhibit is Angry Birds!

Building their angry bird towers to knock over

Video - Grace demonstrating how it’s done!

Lots of animals - Jackson now wants a macaw when we get back home 🦜

Video - dance moves

Jason loved this suspended climbing exhibit - kids are climbing around inside of it

Happy Halloween! I wasn’t sure what to expect celebrating Halloween in a large city - we found a great street blocked off playing music, with bounce houses and vendors. Kids trick or treat from business to business.

On Friday, Jason and the kids visited the new World Trade Center and 911 memorial

Some pics while we wait for the ferry on Saturday morning to explore Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty

We all used the audio tour devices - they even had a kids version that Grace enjoyed

Sitting on the original benches that immigrants waited on to register once they arrived at Ellis Island

Learning about how doctors used a buttonhook to look for a specific eye illness that caused blindness that some immigrants brought with them upon entrance to the US

Looking at all the different currency that was exchanged for US dollars

Some immigrants had to pass a mental examine if it was suspected there was any issue with your mental capacity - kids tried to complete the puzzle challenge

Kids completed the Junior Ranger book and got sworn in as junior rangers and got badges

Ellis Island was originally opened in the 1892 and registered immigrants until 1954. It was reopened as a museum in 1990. We all enjoyed the history here and wished we could have had more time to explore.

A magnificent view of the Statue of Liberty from the ferry

We explored the new museum at the Statue of Liberty and the grounds some - we did not plan enough time here but hit the main points

A replica of her foot

They had a cool interactive photo booth where you could choose photos that stood for liberty to you and the collage was floated across the wall

The original torch that was replaced

After the Statue of Liberty we took the ferry to Battery Park and jumped on the subway to midtown (the kids favorite thing in NYC has always been the subway)

A quick visit to Grand Central Terminal

A visit to Rockefeller Center where the kids convinced us to go ice skating

We ended our day on the steps of St Patrick’s Cathedral

Even Jackson was ready to be in bed!

Good night New York!

Sunday we planned a lazy day that started off at FAO Schwarz

Then we headed to Times Square

To see Harry Potter - it’s a two part play so we saw the first part at 1 pm then returned at 6:30 pm for the second part

In between parts we found more yummy pizza and dessert!

You can’t go to Harry Potter and not get some wands!

It was an amazing play and I’d strongly recommmed it! Great way to end our week in NY!!
