Inspired by my mothers 20+years of all year round ocean swimming up until her 85th yr, I decided to follow suit. The wayers off New Zealand tend to be from 11C to 14C (52-57F through the winter months.
At the end of August this year, I travelled to Stewart Island, Rakiura, off the southern tip of NZ to attend a family funeral. My mother is a 3rd generation islander & my siblings & I are 4th generation, however our family moved north over 55yrs ago (I’m now 62). While on the island I not pnly wanted to swim for myself, as I now love neing in the cold water, but I also wanted to swim to honour my mother.
It’s great when you have clear motivations for taking action & generating even small adventures for yourself
