Gabriel, Felicity, and I started our big adventure day at Linnea’s for breakfast while Andrew finished packing the house. Felicity really liked the little green stools and fish. Gabriel loved the waffles.

We are in the car on our way to Oakland. Babies are asleep in the back after a yummy lunch at Lincoln Street Deli.

Uncle Gofus met us at the airport to pick up the car seats and wish us bon voyage. It was really helpful to have another adult help us get checked in!

The flight was very challenging. Poor Felicity didn’t want to sleep so poor me had to walk her up and down the asiles for 10 hours. But we made it!

Hilton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

We were very tired when we arrived in hot Paris. The trains from the airport to the city got canceled. We had a little dinner from Paul in the airport.

After about 4 hours of hoping that the trains would work we decided to make the very dangerous choice to take a taxi to our hotel, The Little Palace. Thank goodness that we didn’t crash.

Luxembourg Gardens

What a beautiful day!!! We slept incredibly well (after all being awake for 34 hours). We got up around 10 and walked to the Luxembourg Garden. We got delicious crepes along the way (Andrew's egg and cheese one was the best).

Gabriel was SO excited to walk across the Pont Neuf.

We had fun looking in all the cute little shop windows and Gabriel wanted to visit each flower shop that we saw (he wants to be a florist when he grows up now).

We rented a boat for Gabriel to float in the pond. He got the one with the Indian flag on it. Felicity loved walking around the gardens. Gabriel got to ride on the carousel (the giraffe). Then Felicity and I got to play in the toddler playground while Andrew and Gabriel played on the big kid play structures.

We stopped at a fromagerie on our way to Notre Dame. We got got cheese to go with the strawberries that I had bought. Then Andrew and Gabriel went to the boulongerie to get bread while Felicity and I paid for the cheese. We walked to Notre Dame and had our super yummy picnic in the garden behind the cathedral.

Then Felicity chased pigeons by the cathedral and we walked back to our little palace hotel

CathΓ©drale Notre Dame, 75004 Paris, France

What a day! We got up and rushed to Notre Dame for the international Mass. It was very beautiful and impressive. Felicity did not want to sit still so Gabriel and I followed her up and down the aisles.

Then we walked around a bit and lit a few candles. After Mass we walked along the Seine to the Jardin des Plantes. We took a quick trip to the zoo. Then Andrew and Felicity rushed back to our hotel for nap while Gabriel and I got a gelato and sat in the garden, then took the Metro back. During nap, Andrew watched the kids and I got to go to a cafe for lunch. I chose one near the Pompedieu. Then I walked to the Louvre to get tickets for tomorrow. Just the courtyard was incredible. I can't wait to go back tomorrow. Then we took the metro to the Eiffel Tower. And a boat ride back to Notre Dame. We had dinner near Shakespeare and Co. (haven't been inside the shop yet). Got Nutella crepes in a super fun windy alleyway and took the metro back. What a day!

Louvre Museum

Today we overslept and ran to the Louvre. We went straight to the Intervention of the Sabines. Then the Mona Lisa. It was very very crowded and hot. Then we went to the sculptures and antiquities. Then tried to exit but it was very tricky with the stroller. Gabriel and Felicity enjoyed playing in the courtyard. We got crepes on the way back to our hotel for breakfast and lunch.

Gabriel, Felicity, and Andrew are napping now. I’m waiting in line to see the Saint Chapelle. I just got to enjoy a nice macaron while sitting on a lounge near the Seine. How very pleasant!!!

Saint Chapelle was a little underwhelming. Then I walked to Shakespeare and Co. bookstore. It was a nice bookshop. Then I roamed around the streets nearJardin de Luxembourg.

Andrew texted me that Gabriel and Felicity woke up so I hurried back and we walked to Temple Park and played in the play ground. Then we got a rotisserie chicken and vegetables and went to eat them on the bank of the Siene. Finally we locked our love lock to Pont Notre Dame abd headed back for sleep.

Lisieux

We woke up super early and took the train to Lisieux. The ride was just about and hour and a half and it was BEAUTIFUL. I’m in love with the French countryside.

We were really tired by the time we got to Lisieux.

Our AirBnb host met us, and with the help of google translate we were settled. I’m very happy that nobody here speaks English.

I went to the Carmelite convent to look up mass and prayer times, then to the grocery store (monoprix) to get our food for lunch and dinner. When I got back, Gabriel was VERY excited to cook scrambled eggs. And they were delicious! \240Andrew went out and found out that there is a big bike race today. (It’s still looping through town at 10:15 and it started at 2!). Felicity woke up from a huge nap and we played. When Gabriel woke up from his nap we went walking around looking at cathedrals.

At the last minute we decided to walk up the mountain to the Basilica. Best choice EVER!!!

Pontorson

We slept in again. With a ton of rushing, we made it to the train on time. The first leg of our journey took us to Caen. Poor Felicity didn’t sleep at all last night so she was really fussy at the train station where we were for 1h30 (I love that notation!).

Now she’s sleeping on my tummy in the front pack and Gabriel and Andrew are working on a French activity book we got at the station.

Can’t wait to see Mont St-Michal!

Once we got to our hotel, Felicity was wiped out and needed a nap, so Gabriel and I walked to Mont Saint Michal. It was a very long walk! I see why people take the tram!

We explored and got a crepe for dinner. It was an incredible place! I liked thinking about what it must have been like there in olden days.

Then Andrew and Felicity came to meet us (we recommended that they take the shuttle!). We chose to go to the monastery. It was SO cool, although they had strange colored lights reflecting on everything. I love thinking about how many people have walked through the cloisters in the last 1,000 years.

St-Malo

What an incredibly fun morning! We grabbed some pastries and took the shuttle to the mont. Then we walked along the beach (the tide was low). Gabriel and Felicity and I waded in the water. It was SO fun!

Then Felicity and Andrew went back to the hotel for a nap. Gabriel and I went to the Michelin restaurant, le Mere Poulard- where omelettes were invented. It was so fancy and fun. I got an omelette and Gabriel got a full kids meal- free range chicken, fries, salad, and chocolate mousse with a chocolate covered marshmallow. It was really fun to have a fancy little date. Then we got an ice cream and ate it at the top of the castle right below the monastery.

Then Andrew and Felicity woke up and we went for a walk along the dam and back for an evening stroll around the mont. It was so pleasant!

Felicity and Gabriel and I just read Strega Nona. It is very exciting that Felicity is able to pay attention to longer books these days (she also loves Pout Pout fish :)

Pontorson

Lots of traveling on this hot day. We started out at our hotel and took the bus to the train station. At one of the train stations a seminarian named Francois helped Andrew carry the bags over a huge bridge over the train tracks. Then took three different trains back to sweltering hot Paris.

After a little rest in our itty bitty hotel room we headed out for a very slow 95 degree walk to the Luxembourg gardens. When we got there I saw some kids playing in the fountain. All Gabriel has wanted to do in Paris is play in a fountain with other kids in his underwear. Unfortunately there was a big no swimming sign so Andrew said no. Poor G!

We went to the crazy train station and got tickets for Amsterdam tomorrow.

Then to a grocery store for bread and cheese for dinner. We got Gabriel an Evian aerosol water sprayer (we saw an Italian family using these in Mont St. Michal). He was thrilled to spray all of us. Felicity loved it. So did I - it was quiet refreshing!

Very excited to take the fast train to coolness tomorrow.

We were so happy to leave
