Welcome to RANMAR Adventures with Randal and Marla; thus RANMAR. We begin this new phase of our forever on January 9th 2018 when we bought “Rhett”. Rhett is our 30’ Forest River Vive Extreme Lite travel trailer. My truck is affectionately named Scarlett which is her color and together we decided to be “Gone with the Wind”.

Our purpose is to chase the grandkids and finally do the fun things we couldn’t afford in our first 20+ years so here we go.

We set up camp for the first time at the Roubidoux Springs campground in Waynesville Missouri for lack of a place to store the trailer at home. Ten days before our first real excursion to Abilene Texas. Very cold so we decided we would not risk freezing pipes so no water hook up, if we needed it, home was three miles away. Here is our first site setup.

We found out quickly that propane doesn’t always survive extreme cold. It was sub zero for three days so the regulator froze leaving us without the use of our furnace. We had an electric heater and it does pretty good warming a small space so needless to say we survived.

20 January off to Abilene. After a little time hooking up Scarlett and Rhett and a chatty neighbor we got started around 0945. It was windy as it always seems when we are pulling something but we still managed a smooth ride. The first noticeable issue is gas mileage hanging out between 7-9mpg. Oh well just gotta suck that up, for now anyway. We made our first stop just before Joplin and had no issue, quick fill up then back on the road. The second gas stop was weird in that Scarlett died on us as we reached the fuel pump. I guess she just needed to rest because she was fine after filling up. Stop 3 Scarlett lead Rhett into a curb and popped a tire! Wow, first trip and already messing it up. Marla whipped out the lug wrench and started breaking lug nuts while I got the 5 ton jack out of the truck to change the tire. Together we had it off and changed in about 20-30 minutes. NASCAR fast! No more drama to Abilene where we reached our destination Dyess Air Force Base just about five minutes from Laurren’s house.

So Marla went about the next couple of days setting up the inside and organizing everything. She has done a great job thinking of small space living. Everything looks great and we are settling in and then-it happened. Marla noticed a leak from our under belly at the rear of the camper. We were afraid a water line had burst since it had been very cold the first couple of nights. I called our warranty and somehow got an opening at a RV service center (2 1/2 hours away). We took it and had it there by 0930 the next day. Well, it turned out there was a fitting that was improperly installed ( no fault of ours) and by 1500 Friday the 26th we were on the road back to Abilene. While we waited for the camper, we were also able to get our flat tire replaced thanks to the extra warranty we bought. So far so good!

One of the reasons we are here is our princess Ivory Grace. 90% angel 10% watch out! I’m Pappy and Marla is MarMar. She has us wrapped around her finger and in a few weeks we will have another one doing the same things. This is the start of our adventures and the reason we are Gone with the Wind.

Week 2 in the books. Marla has been in San Diego all week so I’ve been spending my days with Laurren and Ivory. We’ve played at the park on fire trucks and rocket ships, sand boxes, and slides. We are working on learning to ride a bicycle or in most cases the tricy
