Featuring me exhausted after running around the train trying to find a bathroom to change in and slightly scaring a man with the sound of my pressurized deodorant. First train done, second one to go and then Florence!!.
Arrivederci!!
Im here, yay!! The flight in was extremely easy and relaxed, I slept a little and watched The Alpinist, a documentary about climbing. Got a little turned around at the airport trying to find the train but eventually got there, bought my ticket, and board the train to Roma Triburtina.

Arrivederci!!
Just finished up some nice pizza at a little restaurant around Santa Croce. I walked from the apartment down to the Dumo which was so beautiful. There were tons of tourists so I didn’t stay long and went to look for food. My first day in Italy has been great so far, I’m about to get some ice cream and then head home with Louise. I’m off to Elba tomorrow and I’m so excited!! I need to pack when we get home and I’m pretty exhausted but I’m excited to relax for the next few days.
Some photos from today:
Le Cure- the neighborhood where Jenny and her family lives.
A side view of the Duomo.
Today I headed to Elba, taking the bus to Piombino and then the ferry to Portoferraio.
The ride was surprisingly pretty, we past though a lot of small towns and the two hours it took ended up feeling very short. Next, I got on an hour long ferry to meet Jenny and Giovanni. The views from the ferry were absolutely stunning. I got to see the whole coast of Elba and all the little different areas of the island.
This was near the end of the ferry ride as we arrived into Portoferraio. It was there a 45 minute drive to Pomonte, the little town where Jenny and Giovanni live. I got settled and showered and then we headed to explore the little town. It’s very small but very cozy. Everyone knows everyone and people are very friendly. The water was amazing, it’s so clear and the perfect termperarure. We then headed back home and got dinner ready and finished the night off with peaches with lemon and sugar.
I’m so looking forward to relaxing this week and can’t wait to explore more! Also, they have a cat, Viviana (Vivi), she’s still warming up to me.
The past four days on Elba have been extremely relaxing. I’ve been swimming, reading, eating gelato, and tanning. It’s been a lovely vacation and time to not worry about anything. So far the weather has been very sunny but today it’s pretty overcast and humid so not the best day to swim and be outside.
Right now I’m sitting at the back of the small church in the Piazza, just ate some fondante (dark chocolate) gelato from a small gelateria in the town where the owner makes the gelato fresh every morning!
Yesterday we went to visit Napelon’s house at Portoferraio where the vies were beautiful. We head back to Florence tomorrow and then I’m off to school on Wednesday!
A collection of sunsets on Elba
Today I headed back to Florence from Elba. It was a very long day and we were all exhausted afterwords.
While Elba was a lovely place and Pomonte was extremely relaxing; I’m happy to be back in the city and surrounded by urban energy again.
Tomorrow Jenny is going to take me on a “walking tour” of Florence which I look forward to and I’m hoping to go out for some food and/or drinks tomorrow night if I have the energy.
I got to have a very relaxed evening watching tv and planning on weekends for this semester which I really needed.
I cannot wait to begin orientation and start classes!!
Sunset from Jenny and Giovanni’s house in Florence
Vivi- im not happy with her after she nearly gave me a heart attack in Pomonte this morning when she got outside without her harness
Yesterday’s Adventures!!
View of the Arno River
Cool dude about to go into the river
The view of the gardens above Saint Niccolò
Walked by Galileo’s house on the streets of Florence. There were some plaques written about his on the house and images of him.
The buildings are all so colorful and very different styles than the US.
Found a cute little walkway
Another example of how pretty and colorful the houses are, loved this green!!
Another view of the Arno
Yesterday was SO fun, we walked a total of 5 miles and my legs were dead. I really enjoyed seeing areas of the city I would not go by myself and the arts district was very peaceful compared to the more urban and busy side of Florence.
The Arno actually divides Florence into two separate areas!
On my way to campus!! Got a cappuccino and a pastry but the coffee just made me a little more jittery. I’ve been having an espresso and a cappuccino every morning…
My train was running a little late at Campo di Marto but I should still get to campus around noon/1 pm. I’m little worried about getting a taxi at Roma Termini but I’m hoping it’ll all go smoothly.
It’s the second day of classes and I just made the bus bu a minute.
