Last year, my fraternity brother mentioned that he wanted to drive Route 66 next year after August when he turned 66 . We decided to join the Route 66 Motor Tour organized by Craig Parrish starting tomorrow. \240Here we go!!

Getting ready for the Route 66 Motor Tour

Taking the 1930 Model A Highboy Roadster. This car has competed in TSD Rallies, The Race of Gentlemen, The Colorado Hill Climb, and numerous trips to the North Carolina Coast from Nashville.

Rooster Tails !! Driving a Hi Boy in the rain results in great looking “rooster tails” from the rear tires. This took place during the first few hours, then the the rest of the trip was sunny. The car did fabulously with only a few bolts here and there to tighten along the way.

Escaping Nashville by driving the back roads through Pegram, Ashland City, and then up through Hopkinsville, Evansville and on through Indiana, and then into Illinois just before sunset.

The roads we took were great roads with fantastic scenery the entire trip. As it was a rainy first leg of the trip and the color of the sky was dreary, one of the first memorable sights was the many tobacco barns with smoke coming from the roofs of the barns against the skyline. This was in Kentucky and I really didn’t realize how much tobacco harvesting took place in that area.

Further up the road in Fowler Indiana we saw literally thousands of wind generators, mile after mile. Kind of a surreal sight.

Not a single inch of interstate was touched for this 500 mile trip and we arrived just before dark
