This journal entry covers a weekend but many miles. We left Sarasota on a Friday morning and spent one night in Santa Rosa Beach then headed to New Orleans on Saturday morning and spent two night there before heading to Galveston, TX. Lots of miles but we tried to take in a few sites!

It’s been years since we’d been to the Gulf along the panhandle of Florida and Santa Rosa Beach didn’t disappoint (but the weather did!) The were so impressed

With the massive sand dunes

Cloudy, overcast evening

Would be a beautiful place to spend some sunny days at!

Video - Our walk from the state park to the beach. Racket loved exploring and the kids loved messing with him with the palm leaves

Kids first experience at a Waffle House - they loved it!

Goodbye FL!

Quick drive through Alabama

Nothing much to see in Mississippi

So we landed in Louisiana!

I loved this campground - after many weeks of RV parks we were finally back to a campground!

Big spacious lots where campfires we’re allowed

Lots of trees for climbing

The state park was on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain

Rock climbing too!

He’s trying to figure out if it’s fresh water or salt water??? It’s actually brackish water

The lake is pretty big - you can barely see the New Orleans sky line in the distance

The state park has some of my favorite trees — oak with Spanish moss

Large oak tree for climbing

He found the perfect perch

We are finally enjoying

A campfire!!!

Ahhhh!!

We even got to grill and eat outside

I couldn’t resist - I’m not sure she even found what she was looking for!

On Sunday, we explored New Orleans starting at Jackson Square

Checking out the inside of St Louis Cathedral

Andrew Jackson statue

Vendors at Jackson Square

Video - musicians outside of Cafe Du Monde

Cafe Du Monde is famous for...

Their beignets!

Breakfast of champions!

Grace approved!!!

We hopped on the double decker bus tour to see the most of the city since we only had one day

Cemetery — the bodies are entombed above ground since the city is below sea level

Superdome

Historic homes along the parade routes - you can see the beads hanging from the trees. New Orleans has more than 50 parades during carnival seasons leading up to Mardi Gras

We jumped off the bus to visit Mardi Grad World

I had no idea how big this industry is for parades and carnival season

They make all of the characters for the floats out of paper mache, styrofoam and fiber glass

❤️
