Banks

Started our journey by making our way down to Boise so that we get a head start for the long drive to St. George tomorrow. Stopped in banks for a burger and brew. Cheers to day 1!

Stitch was dying to get out and run about. \240

Daddy and Finn made good use of the kiddie pool at nana and papa’s Boise house.

I-84, Tremonton, UT 84337, USA

Alright, a little over a third of the way there! Finn has had happy and less happy moments. Here are some happies:

Stopped for some lunch and playtime. Good ol’ McDonald’s!

Followed by a nearly immediate obligatory rest area stop to clean up puke.

Don’t they all look happy. They weren’t the ones puked on...

St. George

Decided last night (over a few much needed beers) to start off slow today with a couple of short hikes in snow canyon. First up was Jenny’s Canyon, a super short 1/2 mile round trip.

Ready to run!

Posing like the British supermodel he is

Scramble!

BIG step

Handsome hubby

Taking an artsy shot I’d imagine.

Such a big boy!

Finley leading the way.

Our next trek was Hidden Pinion, a 1.5 mile trek. There were a few fun tight spots to get through. Finn was in the pack for most of this one which gave an extra challenge for those squeezes!

Finn knows the way!

Here they come!

Trying to get grumpy Finn to smile!

Finn had enough hiking after this, so we headed back for a much needed nap. Post nap we made a good attempt at some pool time but Finn wasn’t really a willing participant.

Only kid in the world not happy at a pool. What can you do but try...

Onward to (hopefully) more agreeable adventures tomorrow!

Zion National Park

Got a bit of a late start today, but for good reason. Finn slept in until 8:30! After some porridge (compliments of Martin), we took off for Zion.

Happy to run!

Not so happy to pose.

Waiting in line for the bus

Right before a meltdown on the bus.

Our hike for the day was the Emerald Pools, which was roughly 3 miles round trip.

Too much running to stay for a pose with the trailhead sign

Lower pools with run off and Martin

More tongues! There was a theme here

Happy look?

Spot the Martin!

Friendly squirrel

Oh! There he is again!

Pair of squirrels on a rock

Best buddies

Finn likes the squirrel too!

Sort of an more accurate representation of the day - pained, NO, and desperate

Waiting for a beer, we have a happy moment

Fell asleep on dada at dinner

Stratches and marks from Finley kicking me with his shoes...mostly on the joyous shuttle rides.

Made it through the day with mostly positives but, alas, the life of a 22 month old is fraught with difficulties. We managed dinner at Zion Brewery, which was quite nice!

St. George

Not much to update for today. Hung out at the pool. Finley was much braver this time in all three pools (kiddie 2ft, hot tub around the edge and big pool) even came out in the big pool with mom and dad! Had a nice dinner at George’s pub. Finn almost ate all of his fish!

Cuddling up at the condo

Dinner is serious business

Papa Martin got Finn the coolest airplane to play with!

Papa M and Finn

3 Brits in a booth (I feel like that could be the start of a joke)

Bryce Canyon National Park

Hit the road early today to head to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Quick stop in Zion before we went through the amazing tunnel.

Finn is ready for our hike in Bryce!

Mama and Finley

Ahhh wilderness area

Walked about a mile down the Fairyland loop trail and found a nice spot for a snack before slugging it back up the way we came.

Another hiking selfie!

Zion National Park

We had a split group today. Martin and I went up Angel’s Landing and Dan took Finn to do the Riverside walk and they ended up continuing on about a mile into the narrows! Super dad!!! Here are some of the pics I stole from Dan and Finn’s adventure.

Finn and dad waiting for the shuttle

Cutest pair of hikers out there!

I believe this was near the start of the narrows

Walking in water

Such a good explorer

Milk is important in all adventures

Sleepy babe

Angel’s landing was interesting. Quite the hike up and down for sure and incredible engineering to build the path to get up there, but I expected the chain section to be scarier...maybe there was just too much hype? The frustrating part was that at least half the people trying to go through that section had no business being out there. Oh well, suppose that’s not for me to decide!

Headed up to the top!

Big elevation gains to come

Switchbacks all through that shaded spot in the middle

Martin hiking up

Me with a Martin sneaking up

This is looking back into the valley from the front side to the back (after all those switchbacks from the earlier pic)

The end of that valley lead to more switchbacks! Martin can be found down the somewhere

That 0.5 mile took over and hour thanks to traffic jams and incapable climbers

Times Square! Oh actually I mean angel’s landing 🙄

Looking down

Canyon selfie

Yep, made it all the way!

When I got back, I spotted a Martin perched up there between the trees

On the way back down

We all met successfully and Finn was rewarded for being a good boy with a new toy. I tried to get him to get the coyote, but alas, he is obsessed with raccoons.

Meet Rupert!

Finley loves Rupert.
