Too busy during the last week of work, I had no time to plan for a holiday during my summer break. A friend recommended Anywhr, a bespoke travel planner with a twist. They do not disclose your travel destination until the very day of your departure.

Read on to follow my journey!

1
Singapore

This came to my email and it was all I had to prepare me for the trip!

Any guesses?

For all I know, it could well be Malaysia🤦🏻‍♀️

2
Singapore

And then this came to my doorstep 2 days before the trip. The envelope contained the travel destination and suggested activities... to be opened only when I arrived in the airport. Eeks! Way to build anticipation!! 😳

Terminal 4

Wahaha!! I'm going to Kuching, Malaysia!

When I opened that pack and saw those Malaysian ringgit... my emotions went 😱😫😓 (in that order).

Having quickly researched more about the place... 😅, I'm glad to be going somewhere I've not been to!

And as you can see, I cheated and opened it soon before I arrived at the airport.

Kuching

I am so impressed by the packaging and presentation of the travel information. It was all personalized and printed into a booklet (travelogue), and just imagine all the work that must have been put in! I take delight in these fine touches.

Included in the envelope were:

* A travelogue, which contained flight and accommodation details. It also included some suggested activities to see and do, specialty foods to eat and drink.

* Money! There was some local currency to help tie me over for travel expense to the hotel and for the tourist tax fee to be paid at checkout.

* A cute postcard.

To see, do, eat and drink

Arrived at Serapi hotel via Grab. It’s quiet here, and didn’t seem like there are many guests. It also seemed a little far away from the tourist area.

Unfortunately, it started to rain after I got to my room.

5
Kuching Waterfront, Kuching, Sarawak.

Walked to the waterfront, the tourist area of the city.

6
Jalan Gambir

When I initially typed Kuching onto Google, the first thing I found out was that the name ‘kuching’ means cat. This city is a lover of cats!

Meanwhile, I never liked cats, in fact I was scared of them. And only recently came out of that fear.

God is amusing.. 😒😆👍🏻

There were many more I saw. But the idea of cat photos on my phone was a little too much.

And lots of cat figurines.

Those cats with blue eyes look possessed.

7
Plaza Merdeka

Haha the HK girl in me found a mall!!😅

And a big supermarket inside. I was, of course, only getting water.

Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Kuching, Sarawak.

I went to the Semenggoh Wildlife Reserve this morning, a rehabilitation centre and natural habitat to Borneo's endangered ape, the Bornean orangutan.

At the reserve, orangutans roam freely as they would in the wild. There are said to be 30 orangutans that inhabit this jungle, but the chance of seeing them is unpredictable.

The reserve has 2 feeding times daily, which aims to supplement the apes' diet and allow visitors to view them. During fruiting season when the apes are readily self-sufficient, they are rarely seen. But during non-fruiting season (now), they may appear at the feeding sessions for their meals.

A brief explanation and setting of expectations.

Into the jungle we went.

At the viewing platform, we waited to see if any orangutans would show up.

A mother and child decided to swing by!

See how the mother cracked the coconut, which she then drained to consume the meat.

Sarawak Cultural Village

My last day in Kuching spent at the Sarawak Cultural Village where i got a glimpse of the lifestyles of the native Dayak tribes: Bidayuh, Iban, Penan, Orang Ulu, and Melanau.

Those stairs...

The Bidayuh warrior house

Where they hung the skills of their enemies (in the past), 'recruited’ by head hunters 😆.
