That is why it is always a good idea to pack smart, pack light and avoid bringing anything irreplaceable. But even with that good measure forgetting an umbrella, jacket or cellphone on a train is still a bummer. Thank goodness for the old Lost & Found department.

The weekend following Thanksgiving in the US is the peak time for one particular Lost & Found department servicing Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

You may be picturing a box labeled ‘Lost & Found’ sitting inside an office somewhere. That couldn’t be further from reality. Metro-North Railroad’s Lost & Found is a facility with 100-200 items arriving every day!
